“Doobious Sources” A Stoner Movie That Gets Too High

Weird and silly the stoner film Doobious Sources has been released on Digital HD and VOD. The film makes a stab at being like the movie Up in Smoke, but without Cheech and Chong it just doesn’t make the grade. That said, if you like wacky movies that exaggerate situations for the comedy value, then this little gem is right for you. Read more

“Hidden Figures” a Revealing True Story about the Space Race

Review by John M. Delia, Jr.

The important true and historic film Hidden Figures reveals the many African American women behind America’s success in space exploration during the 1960’s. The struggles with racial equality during that period was at a high point, yet it took a specialized group of African American women to make huge strides in our countries ability to send a man into space. The movie opens yet another significant window in the continuous struggle for equality in America. Read more

“Pete’s Dragon” a Family Must Home Video

petes-box-art

Nicely made the film Pete’s Dragon has reached home video. Now in Blu-ray/DVD and combo the film has a modern twist that should mesmerize the youngest of tykes that like exciting and family oriented films. Since it does have a quite unsettling beginning my advice to parents, run it ahead a bit for 5 and under until you are okay with what you are watching. It settles into a very adventurous fantasy with Elliot the Dragon and the orphaned Pete.

“I.T.” a Tech with a Sinister Plan

it-box-art

Very cringing and realistic, the movie I.T. has just been released on home video. The film has a lot of technology devices and they come into play a lot. I like the mystery and build up that gets very tense, even though it becomes a little predictable at times. Pierce Brosnan’s at the top of his game and support character James Frecheville keeps his character evil and chilling. Read more

“Finding Dory” is a Splash On Home Video

finding-dory-boxart-combo

The latest Disney/PIXAR animated movie Finding Dory shows it’s up to snuff in this family film now on Blu-ray, DVD and in a combo pack. This spin-off of Finding Nemo takes families on another journey with this time looking for Dory’s parents. Although it can be considered a stand-alone film, the trip has many similarities to Nemo’s big adventure. While this shouldn’t be a problem for even the littlest tyke, parents may yawn a bit, get antsy, and even look at their glow in the dark watch once or twice or maybe even three times. Hopefully the new characters will keep the older folks amused, especially my favorite Hank the octopus. Read more

“Army of One” a Wild and Wacky Adventure

army-box-art

The wild and wacky Army of One arrives on DVD/Blu-ray disc and I could not stop laughing. It’s based on a true story with the guy at the center of it all getting his day in the limelight when the credits start to roll, and he swears to it. The story may sound ludicrous and impossible and most of it probably is, but if you believe it for a real adventure you’ll have more fun. It’s cast perfectly and reminds me a lot of the crazy film Danny Deckchair. Read more

game-of-thrones-box-bd

Whether you have been watching Game of Thrones since season one or are just becoming acquainted with the wild and wicked sagas, it’s time for the release of Season 6 on Blu-ray and DVD. The plus factor for those who have watched the show on HBO, besides living it again there’s many features and commentaries that gives you additional insight into the world of the salacious kingdoms. “Kickboxer: Vengeance” is a Knock Out

kickboxer-boxart-dvd

The sport of ring mixed martial arts fighting has laid low in movies, but rears its mastery in the film Kickboxer: Vengeance just released on Blu-ray and DVD. The film takes the contact sport to a new level with a story that takes you to Thailand where the caged ring is open for battle to the death. The choreography makes the action look real, the use of actual fighters creates excitement and the cinematography and sets put the audience close showing some excellent examples of the contact sport. You don’t have to be a kickboxing fan, but if you are, get ready to watch some of your favorites take on some very realistic acting. Read more

“The Night Of” a Powerful HBO Mini-Series

night-of-boxart

Edge of your seat intriguing, the HBO series The Night Of provides excellent drama for crime fans. Not exactly an original storyline giving it a “CSI” vibe, but the point of view makes it different and gripping. With acts of terrorism in the world and growing in America, suspicions have escalated. This mini-series takes you into the world of bias and bigotry as seen by one trapped in a vicious crime. It’s just a story after all, yet if it hadn’t been a Muslim caught up in the crime it may have not been as powerful. Read more

“Wild Oats” a Ditsy Comedy with Charm

wild-oats

I enjoyed watching two of my favorite actresses icons Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange in the ditsy comedy Wild Oats. Now on DVD and Digital HD the two were perfect as the twilight of their lives characters and brought back many fond memories of films in the 50’s and 60’s for MacLaine and the 70’s and 80’s for Lange. Still going strong they make the comedy escapade work dishing out a style that filmmakers have left behind, but with Wild Oats, not forgotten. Read more

“ClownTown” Experience the Terror

clowntown-boxart-dvd

Just in time for starting off the Halloween season the horror film ClownTown comes to DVD and VOD. While the movie states that it has a base in fact, that’s questionable and I’ll believe it when they find real facts in The Blair Witch Project. The recent release of Clown that featured its review on our website a month ago and a real sicko it is, goes steps above ClownTown for the horror factor, but not by much. The guts and gore are about equal, but the clown faces don’t out do the scare factor of Kent McCoy’s distorted look in Clown. That said, if you love the horror genre, then put on your polka dot pajamas, slap on a red nose, wear huge shoes and grab a copy of ClownTown at your local video outlet or store. But don’t watch it alone, only if you dare. Read more

“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” A Laugh Riot on Blu-ray

mike-and-dave-boxart

A laugh riot on Blu-ray, the movie Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates shows why it’s at the top of this year’s comedies. The duo of Zac Efron and Adam Devine remind me of Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan in films like Knocked Up and Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn in The Wedding Crashers. Zany, wacky and out and out looney the story hardly ever lets go of the funny bone. Read more
