“Two Lovers and a Bear” a Doomed Romance that Sizzles

The modern day romance Two Lovers and a Bear plays out in the frigid Arctic Circle showing a period in their lives that gets out of control. Directed and written by Kim Nguyen who’s not a stranger to shooting in exotic settings, makes use of the snow laden wind swept mountains, valleys and mini towns that add a lot of visual text to the plot. He controls his cinematography keeping shots tight so his audience can feel the chemistry between his two main characters. The film has been released on DVD and Digital HD. Read more

“Dead West” Hunting for Lost Lust

If you are looking for a really depraved serial killer film, then look no further than Dead West. The movie, now on DVD, takes you on a journey with a lot of dead bodies left behind. Nicely made, the film shows a little pity by using off screen sound to confirm the killings. I’m not saying this to make the film acceptable for the squeamish, but Dead West does avoid a lot of blood gushing horror. Oh, this is not a cowboy movie. Read more

“Masterminds” A crazy comedy that’s a lot of fun

The screwball comedy Masterminds is based on the true story of the October 1997 Loomis Fargo robbery. Taken from a book by Jeff Diamant, the author interviewed the main character following his release from prison. The film, now on Blu-ray and DVD, even has back-up material of the robbery in a special feature called “The Imperfect Crime” included on both the Blu-ray disc and the DVD. Read more

“Pinocchio” A Disney Favorite First Time on Digital HD

One of my favorite Disney films Pinocchio has finally been released on Digital HD in a combo pack with the Blu-ray and DVD. It also has some new bonus features that includes a new version of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in “Poor Papa”. The last release of the film to DVD and Blu-ray was in 2009 for its 75th Anniversary edition, so if your little ones have not had the opportunity to see the masterpiece at home, on their tablet, smartphone, or even their laptop, then the Digital HD code inside the box will make it all happen. “The Light Between Oceans” Now on Blu-ray

A moving romantic drama that gets taught and heartbreaking, The Light Between Oceans has been released on home video. Nicely directed by Derek Cianfrance, who’s no stranger to the genre and delivered the passionate motion picture Blue Valentine. In this film his characters are caught up in a quandary that tests their motives and truth. I am a fan of lush filmed movies that have breathtaking scenery and this one is no exception. Read more

“Doobious Sources” A Stoner Movie That Gets Too High

Weird and silly the stoner film Doobious Sources has been released on Digital HD and VOD. The film makes a stab at being like the movie Up in Smoke, but without Cheech and Chong it just doesn’t make the grade. That said, if you like wacky movies that exaggerate situations for the comedy value, then this little gem is right for you. Read more

“Hidden Figures” a Revealing True Story about the Space Race

Review by John M. Delia, Jr.

The important true and historic film Hidden Figures reveals the many African American women behind America’s success in space exploration during the 1960’s. The struggles with racial equality during that period was at a high point, yet it took a specialized group of African American women to make huge strides in our countries ability to send a man into space. The movie opens yet another significant window in the continuous struggle for equality in America. Read more

“Morgan” Genetics Gone Wild

morgan-boxart

The sci-fi horror thriller Morgan turns brutal when a scientific experiment goes awry turning a lab into a blood fest. Now on Blu-ray and DVD in a combo pack that includes an HD download, the film has all the trappings for a nighttime couple’s shocker. You will not want to see this one alone, especially if you want to get the best out of your video choice. So turn the lights down, get the popcorn ready, maybe your favorite beverage and expect the unexpected. Read more

“Pete’s Dragon” a Family Must Home Video

petes-box-art

Nicely made the film Pete’s Dragon has reached home video. Now in Blu-ray/DVD and combo the film has a modern twist that should mesmerize the youngest of tykes that like exciting and family oriented films. Since it does have a quite unsettling beginning my advice to parents, run it ahead a bit for 5 and under until you are okay with what you are watching. It settles into a very adventurous fantasy with Elliot the Dragon and the orphaned Pete.

“I.T.” a Tech with a Sinister Plan

it-box-art

Very cringing and realistic, the movie I.T. has just been released on home video. The film has a lot of technology devices and they come into play a lot. I like the mystery and build up that gets very tense, even though it becomes a little predictable at times. Pierce Brosnan’s at the top of his game and support character James Frecheville keeps his character evil and chilling. Read more

“Finding Dory” is a Splash On Home Video

finding-dory-boxart-combo

The latest Disney/PIXAR animated movie Finding Dory shows it’s up to snuff in this family film now on Blu-ray, DVD and in a combo pack. This spin-off of Finding Nemo takes families on another journey with this time looking for Dory’s parents. Although it can be considered a stand-alone film, the trip has many similarities to Nemo’s big adventure. While this shouldn’t be a problem for even the littlest tyke, parents may yawn a bit, get antsy, and even look at their glow in the dark watch once or twice or maybe even three times. Hopefully the new characters will keep the older folks amused, especially my favorite Hank the octopus. Read more

“Army of One” a Wild and Wacky Adventure

army-box-art

The wild and wacky Army of One arrives on DVD/Blu-ray disc and I could not stop laughing. It’s based on a true story with the guy at the center of it all getting his day in the limelight when the credits start to roll, and he swears to it. The story may sound ludicrous and impossible and most of it probably is, but if you believe it for a real adventure you’ll have more fun. It’s cast perfectly and reminds me a lot of the crazy film Danny Deckchair. Read more

game-of-thrones-box-bd

Whether you have been watching Game of Thrones since season one or are just becoming acquainted with the wild and wicked sagas, it’s time for the release of Season 6 on Blu-ray and DVD. The plus factor for those who have watched the show on HBO, besides living it again there’s many features and commentaries that gives you additional insight into the world of the salacious kingdoms. This is the first time that a Game of Thrones season has been released so close to one another with Season 5 being released in March of this year so you may also find a copy on a store shelf as well.
