“Killing Hasselhoff” Playing the Odds

When it comes to David Hasselhoff in a movie you can bet he’s at the top of his ego.  Even with a title like Killing Hasselhoff he steals the show in every scene he appears and sometimes with just a smile or a frown.  Now out on DVD the movie has a long list of A list talent that adds to all the fun in this raunchy comedy.  If you want a big laugh on a dreary evening at home, check this one out. “The Evil In Us” Horror in the Woods

October the Halloween month isn’t too far off so a number of Horror flicks have surfaced to pique the interest of fans of the genre. The most recent The Evil In Us comes available on DVD today, but unless you are someone who has just entered the arena of movie terror this one will be a big disappointment.  October the Halloween month isn’t too far off so a number of Horror flicks have surfaced to pique the interest of fans of the genre. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” Kickin’ it on Home Video

Kicking off into hyperspace Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 turns up the action and the comedy in this science fiction action adventure now on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD. It’s been nearly 3 years since the first one hit the big screen and that one was amazing, but I was extremely happy with this next chapter that blew me away. The production quality on the Blu-ray outweighs that of the first taking audiences into a future filled with imaginative aliens and a vast fantasy universe. Read more

“Ash vs Evil Dead” a Bloody Good Horror Feast

Weird, corny, silly, ridiculous, disgusting and nearly vomit inducing, all the things you will like about Ash vs Evil Dead 2.  It’s the kind of horror and bloody mayhem that when presented with tongue-in-cheek comedy can be very amusing. It’s for those who have become fans of the Starz TV Network program or just need a break from the ordinary.  Although I am a fan of Army of Darkness, it was my first time seeing this spin off off of The Evil Dead Trilogy.  This is the second season of Ash vs Evil Dead and is now on Blu-ray/DVD. “Union Furnace” Turns On the Heat

This little indie has a very sadistic plot that although somewhat predictable plays out fairly well.  But, the production quality suffers from the lack of funds and the unskillful acting ability involving support characters reduces the entertainment value. That said Union Furnace is a good platform for novice writer/director Nicholas Bushman and his cast. The film has just been released in Blu-ray and DVD. Read more

“Phoenix Forgotten” a UFO Sighting Revisited

A fictional recall of the incident in Phoenix Arizona whereby a sighting of a UFO turned the city upside-down with fear on March 13, 1997 has been targeted for yet another movie.  Now on DVD, Phoenix Forgotten is a pretentious tale of three lost teens who went hunting for the interplanetary vessel that may have caused the incident. Although it would have been a startling revelation, but much like The Blair Witch Project and other fictional films like 10 Cloverfield Lane, it’s just another folk tale. Read more

“Girls” a Fond Farewell

Very entertaining, the sixth and final season of Girls is available on Blu-ray/DVD. The show vacillates between comedy, drama and painful situations during the 10 thirty uninterrupted minute episodes. Its millennials do “Sex and the City” with more problematic relationships in a modern day society filled with unfulfilled dreams. Nicely acted by a cohesive cast and with a script that has all the elements for a winning show. Read more

The Circle: Big Brother on Steroids

Based on Dave Eggers novel and helmed by James Ponsoldt, The Circle is less eye opener than reminder of where we’re eventually headed. As Sun Microsystems chief executive Scott McNealy said nearly 15 years ago, “You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it.”

While not as imminently insidious as Person of Interest’s “Machine,” founder Eamon Bailey’s (Tom Hanks) Circle is every bit as invasive and foreboding. What’s perhaps most unsettling is that Hanks’ humble Norman Rockwell persona sells his social media hydra as innocently as a little kid on the corner hawking lemonade. Read more

“Correspondence” an Act of Forbidden Love

A very different kind of love story Correspondence deals with issues, communications and science while it spins a sordid tale of love and lust. Now on DVD the film is nicely directed and written by Giuseppe Tornatore, the filmmaker of the Italian classic Cinema Paradiso. The movie takes you into a world of happenstance solving a way of “coming back from the dead”. Read more

“Prison Break : Event Series” Continues with a Bang”

Most TV adventure series have improved over the years giving their programming movie theater production quality. This is the case for “Prison Break: Event Series” now out on Blu-ray. The direction and acting are top notch and the story, although somewhat far fetched, has very good tension and action qualities needed to keep a TV audience’s attention. Read more
