SEFCA Chooses “Moonlight” as Best Picture 2016

The Southeastern Film Critics Association (SEFCA) has named ‘Moonlight’ the Best Film of 2016.

Writer/director Barry Jenkins’ poetic depiction of a gay black man as a child, teenager and adult earned multiple awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Mahershala Ali, Best Ensemble, Best Adapted Screenplay and a tie for Best Director with Damien Chazelle of ‘La La Land.’ ‘Moonlight’ was also the runner-up in the categories for Best Supporting Actress (for Naomie Harris), Best Cinematography and the Wyatt Award for the Spirit of the South. Miami Film Fest to Premiere Actor/Writer Blake Jenner’s New Film

(January, 04, 2017) — Native Miami, Floridian Blake Jenner, who rose to fame for his winning a role as Ryder Lynn in the Fox hit TV  series “Glee”, will present his first film Billy Boy as a world premiere at the Miami International Film Festival in March of this year. Jenner wrote the screenplay and produced the film while acting in it as well.Billy Boy is one of 8 films nominated for the Festival’s annual Jordan Ressler Screenwriting Award.

Born and raised in Miami with Cuban roots, Jenner honed his skills as a performer as a member of the Miami improv group “Impromedy” and in stage productions at The Roxy Theatre Group in Miami. Once he relocated to LA, Jenner won the second season of the Oxygen reality competition series “The Glee Project” and landed the role of Ryder Lynn, star football player/lead vocalist on the FOX hit series “Glee” from 2012 to 2015.

Jenner’s profile in the independent film world is rising sharply. In 2016, he starred in both Richard Linklater’s comedy Everybody Wants Some!! and Kelly Fremon Craig’s acclaimed The Edge of Seventeen. He will next be seen in the upcoming drama Sidney Hall, which makes its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival 2017. Read more

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (September 26, 2016) – Hard Rock Live, located at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, will host the 31st Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival’s opening night premiere of Dreamland on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 and a post-screening reception for festival attendees.  Joining the festivities are celebrity guests from the film, director Robert Schwartzman, a member of the filmmaking Coppola clan and stars Talia Shire (Rocky, Godfather I, II and III), Beverly D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation) and Johnny Simmons (Perks of Being A Wallflower).



Just beyond the Hard Rock Live box office doors, the arena that has played host to millions will become an intimate movie house. Couples, families and friends will enjoy an exclusive soiree where a movie ticket gets you more than a seat in the theater. Following the Dreamland screening, movie-goers will come together for a cinematic after-party experience, anchored by the area’s premier destination for fun and entertainment.

Dreamland, a bittersweet comedy mixed with fantasy, humor and music will remind you of the 1967 classic The Graduate. Johnny Simmons stars as an LA musician who is going through a rough patch and dreams of opening a piano bar but, suffers from an extreme case of insufficient funds. Things take an interesting turn when Monty gets the chance to fill in as the pianist in a swanky hotel bar. There, he meets an older, wealthy woman (Amy Landecker) and begins a May-December romance that upends his home life. The film also stars Jason Schwartzman (The Darjeeling Limited, The Grand Budapest Hotel).


The 31st Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film premieres over 100 top American Indie and World Cinema features, documentaries and shorts over the 17-day event and rolls out the red carpet for celebrities and filmmaker guests attending the coveted event.
