Here’s an inspirational film that has good sportsmanship at the center of its storyline. It’s called The Perfect Game, and I believe it's the ideal film for the whole family. The movie features some very good acting, directing and a nostalgic look at a historic baseball event. If you have youngsters in your family, or just want to see an uplifting film, then The Perfect Game is perfect for you.

There’s a new game in town and it’s at the movies. A film called The Joneses features a scam that turns the world upside down in upscale communities. Well of course it’s only fiction, but it does leave the impression of ‘What If?’ That said, the acting carries this flick, and it’s very entertaining in spite of some holes in the storyline, and a little ‘missed-direction'. The movie is unique, and without a doubt very...

Although I like the story and acting in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I also feel that it is extremely violent and sadistic. The latter I feel destroys some of the entertainment value of the movie. That said, the mystery and suspense are captured very nicely with great camera work and masterful direction.

Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, Ajami comes to American theatres with a stark depiction of what culture clash is like in the Middle East. I liked the film because it gets into the grit of crime, confrontation, discrimination and hatred that can make life a hell. Well acted, directed and presented, Ajami is a must-see for adults.

The mesmerizing crime film A Prophet, in theaters April 9, gets rolling quickly and then settles in to some interesting character development and storytelling all the way through to its twisted ending. The acting, directing and cinematography are superb, making it a must-see for film buffs, prison drama lovers and filmmaking students. A Prophet was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film.

Here’s a little film that reminded me of an Alfred Hitchcock thriller, but with an erotic touch. Very suspenseful, great characters, intriguing and with artful direction, the movie Chloe burns up the screen in this unsuspecting, strange love story. The acting is courageous, especially on the part of both Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried.

Here’s a little drama from Academy Award-nominated screenwriter/director Noah Baumbach that gets so depressing, it loses the enjoyment of its love story that is really at the heart of the plot. Greenberg reminded me of several Woody Allen films all rolled into one. The main characters are so down in the dumps that whatever comedy there may have been gets sucked up in all the complaining.

Much like Training Day, Antoine Fuqua’s most creative film, Brooklyn’s Finest grabs you, shakes you around and then drops you off a 10-story building. Well that’s how it affected me anyway. I loved the film -- from its cringing beginning to the surprise ending. If you like films that are gritty and grisly, then this flick should be high on your list to see.

My eagerness for the release of Shutter Island, a suspense film directed by Martin Scorsese, ended with disappointment after seeing the flick the other night. What I figured from the trailer as an intriguing thriller, turned out to be a ‘Hitchcock-esque’ concoction with metaphors from the likes of Spellbound, North by Northwest, Marnie and Vertigo without the twists and surprise ending. If you go to see the film, you will be served up some excellent...

The period piece The Last Station has garnered accolades by the Academy of Arts and Sciences with Oscar nominations for Helen Mirren and Christopher Plumber, and rightly so. Their performances in this film make it more than worthwhile to see. If you like a good story of romance, beauty and great costumes, then run to see The Last Station.
