The fine directing, acting and cinematography place Coco Before Chanel high on my list of very good films for 2009. In fact, the storyline that's based on fact, held my attention. It has wit, romance and grit. If you like period-piece films that bring famous characters to life, then make some time to see this fine French film.

This twisty crime drama has a lot going for it, including a great cast, intriguing storyline and very good direction. If you like crime stories that get you rooting for the bad guy, then Law Abiding Citizen fits the your movie mold. I liked the characters in this good guy vs. bad guy vs. good guy movie, and Foxx and Butler are right on the mark.

It has been said that good things come in small packages, and this little film is no exception. The movie Desierto Sur does a brilliant job of bringing a story of sorrow, determination and discovery to the screen that’s touching and convincing. It’s the kind of film that you will remember long after the movie credits roll.

When it comes to musicals, it’s the thrill of watching an interesting character in a dramatic or comedic role burst into song or dance that makes the magic. Although the remake of Fame does have some very good musical numbers, it fails to provide the exciting characters that carry out the story.

Words like elegant, engaging and enjoyable are best used when referring to Bright Star, a very good film by director Jane Campion, who gave us The Piano.
This true story is a period piece, and it comes alive with extremely good performances from the entire cast -- and the exceptional cinematography depicting the romance of the 1800s. If you like historical dramas that are well acted, and replicate an era, then Bright Star should top...

Ang Lee hits the mark with this excellent adaptation of Taking Woodstock from the memoirs of Elliot Tiber. Lee takes us back to that magical event in 1969 like no one has ever done before. I loved the way he got me involved in the storyline from the very beginning, to his inevitable ending. Cool and groovy man!

Have you ever loved anything so deeply that you could lose yourself?
LA Times Reporter, Steve Lopez (Downey), comes across Nathaniel Ayers (Foxx), a Juliard drop-out and homeless man, who is lost in his music, playing a two-stringed violin below a statue of Beethoven in the park. The result of this one encounter begins a long and eye-opening journey for Steve as he finally sees and understands passion and unconditional love. Steve is so...

Take a great cast, add an interesting script, throw in a very competent director, and you have the makings of an excellent film. Shrink has all these qualities and more.
Spacey hits a new high, Palmer provides some sterling youthfulness, and director Pate puts it all together in a neat little package worth seeing. If you like a good drama that will keep you engrossed until the satisfying end, then this fine flick should entrance...

After seeing the trailer for this film I was expecting nothing more than a hum-drum war movie, but instead I found myself interested in every word, and focusing on every incredible scene in The Hurt Locker.
Not since Platoon or Saving Private Ryan have I viewed a war film as worthy a selection for the Academy Awards. If you like your war films explosive (pardon the pun), yet intriguing, then The Hurt Locker should be...

Bringing a crime legend to the screen takes a good deal of research, good casting and impeccable direction and that all came together for Public Enemies. Director Michael Man not only captures the essence of John Dillinger in his movie, but that of Baby Face Nelson as well. Public Enemies is probably Mann’s best, no in my opinion, it is his best film to date.
