Despicable Me, Villain vs. Villain

Review Info

Actors Steve CarellJason Segel
Genre AnimationFamilyComedy
Computer generated animation goes to new heights with Despicable Me, providing a crisp, well-lighted 3D that’s equal to Toy Story 3.  The storyline in the film is not new, but all the wonderful characters are, and that’s what makes Despicable Me a winner.  The family-oriented feature plays to all levels, with adults getting an equal share along with the kiddies, so you can bring the whole brood to this one.

Marmaduke, a Dog with Angst

Review Info

Actors Emma StoneOwen WilsonWilliam H. Macy
Genre FamilyComedy
While I’m not a big fan of dog movies, Marmaduke does have some appeal.  The big lanky pouch provides a lot of kiddy laughs as he stumbles, bungles and brightens some cool scenes of his new movie.  Kid friendly, the appeal here comes from the wide assortment of teen dogs, the ability to converse with each other and the situations they find themselves in.  Adults: Don’t look for a lot of belly laughs to cool...

That funny, rebellious and feisty ogre has a new adventure and it’s pretty darn good.  Laden with funny comments, snappy dialogue and a decent script, Shrek Forever After is fun for adults and the rest of the family. Oh.  You thought Shrek was only for kids?  Well guess again, as this forth edition of the crazy life of the green swamp ogre goes straight for adults and achieves its goal with just reward.

Here’s an inspirational film that has good sportsmanship at the center of its storyline.  It’s called The Perfect Game, and I believe it's the ideal film for the whole family.  The movie features some very good acting, directing and a nostalgic look at a historic baseball event.  If you have youngsters in your family, or just want to see an uplifting film, then The Perfect Game is perfect for you.

Tooth Fairy, a Comedy with Teeth

Review Info

Actors Dwayne JohnsonAshley JuddJulie AndrewsStephen Merchant
Genre FamilyComedyRomanceSports
I am a family film lover at heart, and when they are produced well, like Tooth Fairy, I recommend them highly. The movie has a wonderful message for children who endeavor to realize their dreams and use their imagination. And although it gets a little silly, this film has a lot of good laughs, especially seeing The Rock in a tutu.

This child’s book transfers nicely to the screen with embellishments that make it fun to watch. Filled with lessons to be learned and reaffirmed, this film is great for the whole family.  Even though it may be a little scary for the young tots, Where The Wild Things Are can be entertaining, and a great teaching tool as well.

Shorts

Review Info

Genre FamilyAdventure
Here is a film called Shorts that was penned and directed by Spy Kid’s Robert Rodriguez, who takes a simple storyline and turns it into a unique movie.  Although unique is mostly considered good, in this case the word to me means extraordinary, odd or strange and unusual. The film will have a lot of life for youngsters who are awed by powers from a magical wishing rock, most teens and adults will probably come...

Review Info

Actors Nicolas CageSteve BuscemiPenelope CruzBill Nighy
Genre FamilyAdventure
I liked G-Force, it’s a very good family film filled with comedy and adventure, that kids and most parents will like.  It’s a rollercoaster ride in 3D, as the film pops out at a frequency that keeps youngsters grabbing at the air and pushing themselves to the back of their seats.  If you are looking for something that will keep your children occupied and give you a restful (that is if you do not get...
