I am a family film lover at heart, and when they are produced well, like Tooth Fairy, I recommend them highly. The movie has a wonderful message for children who endeavor to realize their dreams and use their imagination. And although it gets a little silly, this film has a lot of good laughs, especially seeing The Rock in a tutu.

There’s a very cool date film in town starring a fine cast, coupled with very good direction.  It’s called It’s Complicated, and the funny storyline sticks to its title.  If you like your romance with handfuls of comedy, then It’s Complicated is a no-brainer for you.

Film stars like George Clooney are at their best in movies like Up In The Air, where they can show their dramatic ability in portraying an interesting character.  I enjoyed the new Jason Reitman film, just as much as his Oscar-nominated Juno.  Take a flight with Up In The Air, and you’ll enjoy the bumps and jolts of this modern-day story.

Sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock and be a teenager again, because you really have to have their scope of reality to enjoy The Twilight Saga: New Moon.  I know it is a story of star-crossed lovers much like Romeo and Juliet, but maybe I just can’t take it slow. You have to really LOVE the characters and actors to enjoy this sequel.

This nicely played out story, based on the actual memoirs of an affair, is simple and amusing.  Although it is somewhat similar to Lolita, being an actual happing does give it an edge over the famous theme of an older man soliciting a teenager. But, this is a love story no matter how distasteful, or delightful, for that matter, and the acting and direction make it entertaining.

The fine directing, acting and cinematography place Coco Before Chanel high on my list of very good films for 2009. In fact, the storyline that's based on fact, held my attention. It has wit, romance and grit.  If you like period-piece films that bring famous characters to life, then make some time to see this fine French film.

Words like elegant, engaging and enjoyable are best used when referring to Bright Star, a very good film by director Jane Campion, who gave us The Piano. This true story is a period piece, and it comes alive with extremely good performances from the entire cast -- and the exceptional cinematography depicting the romance of the 1800s.  If you like historical dramas that are well acted, and replicate an era, then Bright Star should top...

The movie All About Steve can be summed up with a quick quip -- It’s “Sandra Bullock on Acid.”  The movie starts out with an absolutely great beginning that had me laughing at every turn, but midway though the film Bullock’s character becomes very annoying and the film spirals downward to its barely credible and predictable ending.  It’s one of those movies they should charge half the price for.

If you are into quirky romances Away We Go is a fun-loving whimsical ride that’s truly entertaining.  I liked the acting, emotional situations and the characters in this romp across North America in search of the perfect place to settle down and raise a child.
