The DoughBoys are not a new band. They formed in 1964 when, one day, a young Mike Caruso, from Hubbard Junior High, in Plainfield, New Jersey, asked his friend Richie Heyman if he would like to join his rock band.
In case the name Richie Heyman sounds familiar, yes, that is Richard X. Heyman, who just last year released a new CD entitled, Actual Sighs.
By 1966, the band achieved something that only other rock band
superstar-wannabes achieve, they won a battle-of-the-bands competition
that earned them a recording contract with Bell Records.

Rated: PG Henry Louis Gates Jr. offers this series as "Roots of the 21st century". Just as Alex Haley did with Roots, African American Lives 2 tells the stories of who and what might have had an influence on the way things are now. Back before African Americans could vote, and interracial marriages were permitted, several people lived in fear and died because of the ignorance of the powerful in this country.
This film, divided up into four episodes, takes us into the ancestry of Samuel L. Jackson, Tina Turner and Don Cheadle, just to name a few. Gates peeled away generations of secrets to uncover some truths that might have been better off buried. While for some, the news of their ancestry is an enlightening experience, for others racial barriers are further blurred.
