Critique:
The Ark of Truth is an epic continuation of the Ori saga. This straight-to-DVD production even sports its own orchestral soundtrack -- quite a step up from the series backing. Most of our favorite characters are back, although I still sorely miss Richard Dean Anderson, and they are all above par in their coveted roles.
There are some great features on this disc. The audio commentary speaks for itself. Stargate-SG1: The Road Taken is a very long trailer of previous episodes in the storyline of the Ori tale. If you aren't sure what has been going on, or you are new to the series, this is a great clip to watch as it will catch you up on the history. Note - this is something to watch BEFORE the movie.
The Ark of Truth: Stargate at Comic-Con contains footage from the Comic-Con with the cast talking to a packed room about the series. Fans get up and ask questions, in between the cheering, and the cast takes it upon themselves to answer "comically". A great laugh!
Uncovering the Ark of Truth is your typical behind-the-scenes featurette with backstage footage, cast and crew interviews and a glimpse into the core of this DVD release. It is actually quite interesting to watch and listen to the actors reflect on the production and the series' progression over the years, and how that was or was not concluded in this DVD release. This feature contains a ton of BTS info and effects secrets. Well worth watching. I just have one thing to say, that you will no doubt shout out when watching this segment -- Man on fire!
Final Analysis: If you are a Stargate SG-1 fan (and odds are, you are if you are reading this) then you cannot go without this DVD. The wrap-up of the Ori story arc is something you won't want to miss. If you are new to the series, make sure you watch the Road Taken featurette before you watch the production.
