mtvU's "Turn It Up" has another major player joining in: Emmanuel Jal. Jal is a former Sudanese child soldier who has made international fame as a hip-hop artist. mtvU is doing a month-long feature of "leaks" and music video premieres, promoting the fight against the Darfur Genocide. The MTV channel has partnered with STAND, a Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, and Jal joined the ranks with Death Cab for Cutie, Atmosphere, Tapes ‘n Tapes, Dizzee Rascal, Tokyo Police Club, and The Long Blondes, among others. They hope to merge great music with the college students' activist spirit, bringing focus to one of the world's most pressing humanitarian crises, and get major political officials to take action. Jal also has an upcoming album entitled Warchild, which comes out May 13. This will be featured in mtvU's "Turn It Up" promotion.
