Rated: R I laughed and laughed and then I
laughed again while watching the very funny Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The film may be reminiscent of other films
that have the boy loses girl, boy meets new girl theme, but the way this flick
plays out it doesn’t matter much at all.
If you want a film that you can do dinner and movie to, or the gals want to
do a party and a film, then Forgetting Sarah Marshall should fill the
bill. Of course, if your date bursts into
uncontrollable laughter during the male frontal nudity scenes you may melt into
your seat, but don’t let that stop you from making a snide comment or two.

Being dumped by his idol and TV
star Sarah Marshall (Bell)
has put Peter (Segel) into a downward spiral.
He tries everything to forget the very sexually delightful Sarah, but
being the musical editor of her TV show doesn’t help very much.
So, Peter decides
to take a break and go to Hawaii
for some rest and the possibility of meeting someone new. When he checks into the hotel, however, he’s
confronted by his worst nightmare -- Sarah has checked in with her new British
rock star boyfriend Aldous (Brand). Tormented by her presence with the rocker,
Peter accepts defeat and almost leaves the hotel, but Rachel (Kunis), the hotel
clerk, convinces him otherwise. What
happens next brings a whole lot of laugher and some surprise twists to Peter’s
former idealistic relationship.
Segel
(Knocked Up) does a great job playing the dejected Peter who can’t
seem to get himself up to the challenge of getting a new love in his life. I loved his puppet opera, which brings on some
hilarious giggles and steals the show. Bell (Veronica Mars) plays her pretty self in this one and she's perfect for the role. In one
scene she gives a blushing performance with the very odd acrobatics she
performs in the bedroom...
The
film has some excellent support players that keep the comedy rolling. Bill Heder (Superbad) plays Peter’s best friend who tries to give him some manly advice that
almost always goes wrong. Jack McBayer (Talladega Nights) shows up in the film as Darald, a God-fearing guy on his
honeymoon constantly being attacked by his unconsummated bride. His attempts at sex are hilarious. Then
there’s Jonah Hill (Knocked Up) as the star-struck bartender who
naively tries to get the song he wrote into the hands of Aldous, the British
rock star. The film has a treasure trove
of comedic actors in support that interject their great talent into this very
funny romantic comedy.
Be forewarned, the film contains male frontal
nudity and some very aggressive sex scenes...if you are on a first date, you may want to give her a heads up (no pun intended...), or she may walk out during the
first 10 minutes of the film.
FINAL ANALYSIS:
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a very funny film crammed with great
comedic stars.
