With 47 days left (and counting) till the 2008 UEFA Euro Cup, Vienna’s Football Exhibition "Herz:Rasen/Racing:Heart" at the Technical Museum makes the call to all fans already burning with soccer fever. Fans can come explore their soccer obsession, not only from a full range of perspectives such as technical, cultural, historical, artistic, and athletic, but they can literally play soccer too. This highly interactive exhibition includes enough multimedia-based adventure to make you overdose on all that is the phenomenon of soccer.
In an area of 2,000 square meters (about half an acre), amazing exhibits of photo and sound material quicken the pulse and moving pictures in full length promise to take anyone’s breath away—so bring your inhaler! Visitors can compare their physical ability and skill with other footballers at various test stations. Assume the role of a sports commentator and yell “Goooaaaallll!” all they want. Learn to dive like a professional, because it takes practice to fall properly. Try to score goals at the Kick Off Station and then ask themselves, "Have I got what it takes to be a soccer player?"
The exhibition focuses primarily on the history of European soccer during the past 30 years; it tells the stories of players, fans, of venues, and of techniques on the soccer field, during practice and in the media; it explores the lives of all-time soccer heroes and revives several of the most unforgettable footballing moments ever. And the list of the exhibits goes on. Looking back on the proud history of their long and impressive artifacts: the original Wembley ball, the shoes and jersey worn by Franz Beckenbauer back in 1974, the jogging suit of legendary coach Ernst Happel, Wayne Rooney's shoes, a jersey that once belonged to Dino Zoff, pieces of the lawn cut from the Olympic Arena in Rome, where the 1990 World Cup finals were held, and much more.
Artistically, the exhibit showcases the works of twenty-one European artists that have been fully integrated into the texture of the exhibit.
Vienna’s Football Exhibition "Herz:Rasen/Racing:Heart", will be shown at the Vienna Art House in the Technical Museum until July 6, 2008.
For those of us who can’t pull a trip to Vienna, pace yourself! Keep up with the countdown (and your temperature down) for the 2008 UEFA Euro Cup at its Official Website.
