Made of Honor Poster
Rated: PG-13
Made of Honor is a perfect “Spring Date” film, with enough laughs to keep even us guys interested. I mean if you want to score points with your lady, here’s the perfect opportunity. I’m sure she likes the main star, Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy), what woman doesn’t these days?

Yes, this light-hearted romantic comedy is a ‘chick flick’, and yes it’s reminiscent of Her Best Friend’s Wedding (only gender reversed), and yes it’s filled with the required tug-at-your-heart-string themes, but at the same it’s filled with some really great ‘boy’s club’ humor.

Tom (Dempsey) is a commitment phobic bachelor who plays the dating game by his own strict rules -- no two days in a row with the same woman seems to be the main one. His chief ambition is to satisfy his mood and desire at any moment, and thanks to an invention he dreamed up in college, he has the time and money to do just that.

The only constant in Tom's life is his best friend Hannah (Monaghan) with whom he has shared the private times of his life. In fact, Tom and Hannah have spent so much time together that they anticipate each other. Never lovers, the two have developed the perfect platonic relationship.

When work sends Hannah overseas for six weeks, Tom is desolate; his buddy isn’t around to play with. His days seem empty without her to share them and he realizes that he loves her deeply. Rushing to her side to propose marriage the day she returns, he is floored to find her with a handsome and rich fiancé in tow. Expecting him to be filled with joy for her, she asks him the ultimate friendship question “Will you be my Maid of Honor?” He reluctantly agrees, but only as a means to win her back.

Dempsey does get very comical as the misfit ‘bridesmaid’, and with support from Monaghan playing it straight, the two bounce off each other rhythmically. The hidden stars of Made of Honor are the supporting cast however, who deliver the real joys of the film, particularly McKidd as Hannah’s intended, and Pollack as Tom’s Father.

Starring: Patrick Dempsey, Michelle Monaghan, Beau Garrett, Sydney Pollack, Kadeem Hardison

FINAL ANALYSIS: Made Of Honor is an entertaining comedy that will wed everyone to laughter.
