P.S. I Love You
Rated: PG-13
Buy a new outfit. Be a disco diva. Learn to fish. Take a chance. Travel. Laugh. Love. Sometimes all you need to start really living is a little shove in the right direction, and that's just what Holly Kennedy (Swank) gets from the handsome big-hearted love of her life.

These life experiences come from a series of mysterious letters, and from gal pals who know that a friend in need is a friend in need of some laughs! Based on Cecelia Ahern's joyful bestseller, boasting a top cast led by two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler (300), P.S. I Love You is its own message full of fun, love, triumph and romance.

DVD Features:

  • Additional scenes
  • "A Conversation with Cecelia Ahern"
  • Music video: Same Mistake" with James Blunt
  • "The Name of the Games Is Snaps: Learn How to Play"

Critique:

The tiny handful of featurettes on this DVD is not a good reason to base your decision on its purchase. Instead, buy it because the story is good. Make no mistake -- it is a good story. The acting is fantastic too, and why shouldn't it be when you have such great talent behind the wheel? The thing is, it isn't this gloriously adorable cute movie the trailer makes it out to be.

While there are some really sweet moments, funny interjections and a few light-hearted bits of fluff, most of the film is a very knot-in-your-throat tear-jerker. P.S. I Love You follows the transformation of a woman who has lost the man of her dreams, and guided by her husband, after he passes away from a brain tumor, by way of letters, presents, trips, etc., she effectively moves on after a year of painful, yet necessary planned events by him to allow her the release she needs to get on with her life.

Final Analysis: P.S. I Love You is a great film for girls of any age, not so much for the guys. It will make you laugh a little, but it will mostly make you cry. Have some hankies around when you watch this one.

Hi, Jenna - Thanx for a refreshingly positive and fair review of PSILY. And you're right: It's definitely one 'for girls of any age'. Almost all the reviews I've read from male critics (with a precious few exceptions) have been sarcastic and negative to the max, and really do a disservice to those who might have been curious to check it out but are then scared off by such jaded interpretations. Perhaps not for everyone, PSILY still conveys a strong message of love and commitment and loss and renewal - along w/a v. talented and engaing cast to carry it out.
