MTV is the first cable network to bring a musical, in its entirety, to the small screen for us regular folks who can't always go to Broadway. Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods is a reality competition series premiering Monday, June 2 at 10 p.m. ET. The musical is based off of MGM's hit movie Legally Blonde.
Haylie Duff (7th Heaven, Napoleon Dynamite, and Hairspray on Broadway) stars in and executive produces Legally Blonde the Musical. MTV will run the eight-episode series, giving a first-hand look at what work is involved within a musical to make it run smoothly.
There are 10 "triple-threat" hopefuls wanting superstardom with the help of this musical, but like any competition, only one will survive to the finish. The winner will star on Broadway at the Palace Theater, replacing Tony Award nominated Laura Bell Bundy, who plays the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical.
What does it take to star in a musical? MTV's reality competition will show exactly what it takes to headline on Broadway. Who's got what it takes? Only watching the series will provide the answer. All the women competing must learn the dance routines and songs. Legally Blonde the Musical becomes their life, an around-the-clock job of rehearsals and workshops, but only one will become Elle Woods.
Haylie Duff will be on-hand throughout the rehearsals and workshops, as will renowned theater vocal coach Seth Rudetsky. The duo will provide guidance and support, while the contestants receive critiques from a panel of judges comprised of highly respected names in the theater industry. The judges include legendary casting director Bernard Telsey; Legally Blonde the Musical's Tony Award nominated book writer Heather Hach; Original Broadway cast member of Legally Blonde the Musical Paul Canaan. The entire judging panel, not America, will decide who becomes the next Elle Woods.
MTV.com has exclusive show content and extras including full episodes, deleted scenes and episodic flipbooks. Going to LegallyBlonde.MTV.com will give viewers a glimpse into cast profiles, photos, audition reels, and performances. There is also information on Haylie Duff and the series judges.
Viewers will watch all the women navigate their way through the life trying to become a Broadway star - being both competitors and roommates in a New York City loft won't be easy. Can the women take the pressure?
Be the first to know who can take the heat and who can't when the show premieres on June 2, at 10 p.m. ET, only on MTV.
