Attempts to throw this Kansas City quintet into one of the numerous musical sub-genres have resulted in the birth of embarrassingly overblown adjective-noun combinations such as "euphoric psychedelia" to "exuberant symphonic pop", which might lead to inaccurate impressions that The Republic Tigers resemble, in any way, The Flaming Lips. Wrong. Keep Color is a blend of electronic-wankery, alternative rock and pop. While in theory, such genre-bending may have some appeal to hipness, the truth is hipness doesn't substitute for good music, and theories are useless until put into practice. Unfortunately, when put to practice, Keep Color is the latest tofu product of experimental music: tasteless, bland, and forgettable. The Republic Tigers try to achieve a soothing electronic semi-ambience throughout the Keep Color, akin (in theory) to the likes of Coldplay and Radiohead. Generally the electronic element never amounts to anything more than a boring background noise that occasionally tries too hard and fails miserably to rise above mediocrity and into the realms of epic. Keep Color remains nothing more than another plastic pop album in a slightly different package. For truly euphoric psychedelia and exuberant symphonic pop, listen to The Flaming Lips' The Soft Bulletin.

Produced by Mark Needham (The Killers, Louis XIV, We Are Scientists), the Republic Tigers debut release Keep Color has been a bit difficult to categorize.
