French Kicks
In Stores May 20th
Swimming around for what is the quintessence of French Kicks, this New York-based quartet's latest album proves to be promising. As the first-ever album to be produced and mixed solely by the French Kicks, Swimming has an array of songs that are pure and genuine. Having heard a couple of songs from their previous CDs, Swimming's music is definitely more emotionally compelling.

You can't quite mellow out with the singing because of the fast uplifting beat that drives the momentum of the songs. It's exciting. While a long, drawn-out soulful singing pleasantly appeals to the senses, a heartening and sustaining beat invigorates the body.

Most of the tracks are sung by Nick Stumpf (lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist), but there are a couple where guitarist/vocalist Josh Wise is featured as lead, like "Said So What", "With The Fishes", "Carried Away", and "All Our Weekends". The rest of the indie pop band includes Aaron Thurston on drums and Lawrence Stumpf on bass.

French Kicks delivers an ultimately original album that embodies an assortment of richly complex music that will enliven, refresh, and calm the listener.

Favorites: Abandon, Over the World, Carried Away, With the Fishes, Love in the Ruins

Listen to the album on French Kicks' MySpace (It's already available on iTunes, in stores May 20).
