Broadhurst Theatre is beginning preparations for the arrival of Equus on Broadway this coming September.  Already there are posters and billboards being displayed at the location.

The story follows 17 year-old Alan Strang (Daniel Radcliffe) who is sent to a hospital to undergo psychological treatment after blinding six horses. There he teaches his doctor (Richard Griffiths) the true meaning of passion and belief. The audience lives within Strang's unique psychosis and in turn finds a passion and spiritual awakening of its own through his madness.

Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths will reprise their roles as Alan Strang and Dr. Martin Dysart respectively.

Equus was last on Broadway in October 1974 at the Plymouth Theatre. The production won the 1975 Tony for Best Play and ran 1,209 performances. The 2008 production will mark the show's first Broadway revival since that time and will run through February 2009.

Stage and screen actress Kate Mulgrew has joined the Equuian cast, taking on the role of Hesther Saloman, the public official who asks Dysart to take on the boy's case.  Previews of the production will begin September 5th prior to its opening September 25th.

Produced by The Shubert Organization, Equus will again be directed by Thea Sharrock, who was responsible for the well-received run during its stay on the West End in London, England last year.

Equus in London was truly phenomenal. I went because I wanted to see Dan, but I can honestly say he played his part so well it was easy to forget he was acting. I already have my ticket for the first night in New York, and tickets to go again very near the end. I have no doubt it will be every bit as good as it was in London. I highly recommend it to anyone who can manage to be there!

It certainly IS as good as everyone says it is. It's captivating AND emotionally draining.

The person that -reluctantly- accompanied me in London left the theatre in absolute awe at the cast and the play and Daniel. Couldn't believe he was the same from the HP movies.

You're in for a fantastic night at the theatre.

I already have my ticket for this. I didn't get to see it when it was in London. I hope it is as good as everyone says it was there.
