Starring: Guy Pearce, Piper Perabo, Luce Rains, Shea Whigham Directed By: Mark Fergus Jimmy Starks is an arrogant, smooth-talking salesman who thinks he has a way with the world. After his car breaks down, he passes the time with a road-side psychic, Vacaro, who lets him in on a big secret—he is about to come into a lot of money by way of Dallas. This is great news! Or—maybe not...as this money comes with a deadly price of its own.
Normally one might be elated that these predictions were coming true; however, Jimmy knows there is something else...something scary enough to make the psychic seer suffer a violent seizure and then shrivel away and give him back his money. {mosgoogle right} Starks is unable to get the prediction out of his head, especially the terrified look in the old man's face. Determined to find out the horror seen, Jimmy drives back down the road to force Vacaro to tell him about what he saw by gun point. "I saw no more roads, no more tomorrows. But you’re safe until the first snow," muttered Vacaro. Of course, this only makes things worse, sending Starks further and further into a cyclic madness. He breaks all ties with the sane world, alienating his girlfriend (Piper Perabo), friends and co-workers. He then takes off to follow a trail that leads to his old best friend (whom he consequently caused to be thrown in jail for years), Vince (Shea Whigham). In essence, the old man predicts that no matter what he does—he cannot escape his fate. Starks does not accept this. He is determined to find out what is going to cause his demise and get rid of it, fix it or avoid it. The anxiety builds as he gets closer and closer to the answer...until the day of the First Snow. To summarize, the production itself is rugged, displaying hints of a polished indie-style soul. The role of Jimmy Starks is played brilliantly by Mr. Pearce. All of the actors in this ensemble do a great job. The movie does get a bit slow at times, but it still manages to keep its audience intrigued until the end.

Starks (Guy Pearce) is haunted by Vacaro's (J.K. Simmons) predictions. First it is the basketball game—he predicted the New Mexico Wolves would win, even though it was unlikely—and they did. He predicted Jimmy would come into some money, and his employer soon offers to back one of his sales ventures with some money he came into from Dallas... Sound familiar?
