Dino De Laurentiis' epic adventure story features an all-star cast and impressive special effects. Filmed entirely on location on the remote South Seas island of Bora Bora, this is a touching story of the desperate love affair between a young Samoan chief (Dayton Ka'ne) and a beautiful American painter (Mia Farrow), against the will of her father (Jason Robards), the powerful governor of the island.

Amid this man-made tension comes a powerful hurricane so devastating, the lives of the lovers and the entire island are imperiled. Sven Nykvist's brilliant cinematography showcases both the beautiful island splendor and the catastrophic destruction of Hurricane.

Critique:

This timeless classic is on DVD for this first time, and it is a wonderful story for any film buff or lover of good acting, story development and drama. The performances in this production are very well done, as is the meat the actors have to chew on for their characters.

Hurricane was quite the action-drama film in its time back in 1979, with rolling waves and devastation from the ending storm packing the mightiest punch. I actually had nightmares after watching this movie...about hurricanes of course.

Thankfully things are a little better when it comes to hurricane preparations in this century, but human relations are really not much better than they used to be. We are all still plagued by emotional responses to things without logical thought and prejudices based on color, race, religion and economic status...among other things...on a daily basis.

Hurricane is a great movie to curl up to during a rain shower on a week night. With great characters, action, and a wind-blowing finale most people will find this a fascinating tale.
