The film The Rocker centers on ‘Fish' (Rainn Wilson), an outstanding drummer of the heavy metal band Vesuvius who gets jilted by his band mates due to conditions of a record company deal. While Vesuvius went on to be a world-wide sensation, Fish ended his career due to the break-up.

Years later after being fired from a number of jobs, he moves in with his sister's family. His nephew Matt (Josh Gad) asks him to fill in for a their resigned drummer of their teen rock band ADD, headed by guitar and lead singer Curtis (Teddy Geiger). 

Although Curtis is reluctant to take him on, with the High School Prom gig nearing, he gives in to Matt's pressure. When the band goes on the road following an incident involving YouTube, Curtis and company learn lessons about life as rockers they never knew existed. The Rocker opens in theatres on August 1.

And now on to the Q and A...

ACED: Your life up to now only involved being a singer and a guitar player. What do you think the film The Rocker will do for your career? And will it take you in another direction?

Geiger: I guess it is opening me up to doing some acting and I would like to do some more of that in the future. It's a first for me. Right now we are focusing on getting this next album out and hopefully the movie will help with that and other acting stuff in the future. I had a good time doing it too.

A: In The Rocker your character Curtis has a notebook full of songs. I believe that Curtis says to Fish there were 201 in his notebook. How much of that is real in your life as a singer/song writer and do you write your lyrics in a notebook?

G: Well I've had a few notebooks. I tend to loose them. You know I'll start one up and I'll loose it, and then I'll start another one up and I'll loose that one, so it's never ever gotten to the point where I am super connected to any one notebook. I write the lyrics down or I think them up as I am writing a song.

A: You probably already know you are a teenage heart throb from the number of albums you have sold and your popularity on the Internet. Now with your co-starring role in The Rocker, how will you cope with all the extra attention by the ladies? Or do you have a ‘someone special' already?

G: I don't know. It's something that, if it happens, we'll just have to see how it happens, I guess. And yeah, I do have someone special at the moment. Yeah.

A: For your first acting role in a The Rocker, how does it feel to be one of the main leads?

G: Cool. It's awesome. I'm surprised that it's worked out as easily as it did. I just kind of went in for that audition and they called me back and said "you want the part?" and I said "yes." And it was that simple.

A: Did they give you a reason why they chose you?

G: No, but I have a feeling that it had to do something with that I can actually play music and that sort of thing. I think it helped I guess.

A: You sing most of the songs in the film. Are they originals and will you be able to record them as your own on an album?

G: Well, I didn't write them, but I sang them all and we recorded them for the soundtrack. That will be coming out soon so you will be able to get them from the soundtrack, but there are no plans to put them on one of my future albums.

A: Are you planning on releasing a new album of your songs soon?

G: Right now we are actually doing an album. We have 33 songs and they are on my website. The fans can go there and pick their favorites. The top 11 songs, based on the fans votes, will be on my album this September. (You can vote at www.teddygeiger.com)

A: In The Rocker your screen mother (Christina Applegate) gets involved in your life with some very good advice. In real life, do any of your family members give you encouragement or stick their nose into your career?

A: What can you take from your experience of acting in The Rocker and use in your future career?

G: Just kind of learning about collaboration in a lot of ways. Acting in The Rocker has been a much more collaborative experience. There is a lot of input going back and forth between everybody and that was good. Just in terms of bringing it back to my music career...just helping open up communications a little bit more.

A: What was it like playing along side Rainn Wilson who has had a high acting profile due to TV's The Office, and the successful films Juno, Almost Famous and Sahara?

G: It was cool. I mean Rainn is a very funny and a very talented guy, and he helped me learn a lot about acting.

A: So what was it like the first time you were on the set?

G: I kind of went there not knowing what to expect as a first-time actor. There was a bunch of very talented actors and I had never done it before; and I was a little nervous about what was going to happen. I ended up learning a lot from them. You know, they really helped me out.

A: Can you give advice to young people like yourself on how to get started in acting or singing and what to do if they get a chance?

G: I guess as opportunities come, just take them and run with it. Just keep writing music and just keep doing it, you know. Until it happens, keep running.
