Just when you thought the alternative rock scene may have cooled down a bit, a new band from the UK gives us something new to get excited about. Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, the Fratellis make their their full-length debut with Costello Music.
The band, comprised of Jon, Barry and Mince Fratelli (pseudonyms), started off by playing in pubs around Glasgow, diving into the UK music scene last year, where they were very well accepted.
The album is a crazy-fun, indie rock n' roll riot, full of hyperactive guitar work and matching vocals.
Costello Music opens with "Henrietta", one of the tracks that defines the band's fast-paced, uber-hyper tunes. Alive with addictive guitar and drum work, this song can be described as a cross between Franz Ferdinand and the Arctic Monkeys—the perfect way to open the album.
If "Henrietta" isn't vivacious enough, the following song, "Flathead", is sure to get you on your feet. "Flathead" is one of those songs that makes you want to stand up and just dance, regardless of where you are or who's around to give you strange looks. As seen in Apple's January iPod commercial advertisement, this song is almost too fun to handle.
"Chelsea Dagger", is another song to get you moving, it follows the style of "Henrietta", with more Arctic-Monkey-style vocal work, and friendly Franz influence.
Other noteworthy tracks include "For the Girl", "Baby Fratelli" and "Whistle For the Choir". All in all, this album is rank with indie rock fun.
With all of its uber-addictive qualities, Costello Music is sure to give you the urge to dance in your cubical (if you're unlucky enough to find yourself in one) or just rock out in your car with your friends - an instant favorite.
