A good many of the songs on Truth contain thoughtfully crafted lyrics that, taken the time to examine, go a long way in explaining their sentiments on everything from love, the loss of it, youthful ignorance, and even politics. For the most part, A Modern Way of Living With the Truth is a well rounded album. Three releases in, and with two successful tours under their belt, The Exies are back with their fourth release on a new label, Eleven Seven Music. Gone from the band's original line-up are David Walsh (guitar) and Dennis Wolfe (drums); both having split soon after they were dropped from their first label, Virgin Records. Left to fend for themselves, the two remaining members Scott Stevens (vocals, lead guitar) and Freddy Herrera (bass, vocals) enlisted the help of old friend Chris Skane (another original member of The Exies who recently rejoined) to write songs that ended up being the material for Truth. The album's first single, "Different Than You" is their most successful, followed by five others: "Once in a Lifetime," "These Are The Days," "This Is The Sound," and "A Fear Of Being Alone." Truth is equal parts head banging rock anthems and emotionally charged rock ballads. It's a strong offering from an established band that manages to take all the best elements from their peers and make them work well enough for their own sound to stand out. This kind of rock n' roll tends to sound the same more often than not, and it is at times hard to distinguish one song from another. Truth is proof that The Exies are good at what they do, making them worthy to grace the same stage as various other arena rock gods just as capable of answering the call of legions of sweaty, dog-ear throwing fans. A Modern Way of Living With the Truth is currently in stores and is available for download on iTunes. The band just kicked off their North American tour which you can learn more about at their official site: http://www.the-exies.com/index.html, and on their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/theexies. |

There is something to be said for consistency and determination. After being rejected and almost giving up, The Exies prove with this latest album, that passion and drive go a long way to speak for worth.
