Emma Roberts stars as the quirky, resourceful teen detective, loved by many fans of all ages over the years. In this fun theatrical production, Miss Drew leaves her
hometown of River Heights for the West Coast and enrolls at
Hollywood High School. She is immediately
thrust into a world of self-absorbed, fast-living divas—and they all know she is the new kid on the block—particularly after observing her penny loafers, 50s style and keen intellect.
Not everyone thinks Nancy's sense of style is outdated. "I love the clothes in Nancy Drew. The costume designer, Jeffrey Kurland, personally designed each outfit, so they are all
originals. Nancy has a timeless sense of style that would work years
ago or even today. I'd love it if they put out a Nancy Drew fashion line!" says Roberts. Aside from the Drews' lukewarm reception upon their arrival in Tinsel Town, things start to really heat up once Nancy gets her sleuth on. Because Nancy's father (Tate Donovan) put the house hunting in her hands, she secretly rented a place with a mystery behind it, even though she promised her dad that she'd quit the "detective" business. Soon after Nancy starts collecting clues about one of the greatest unsolved cases in Hollywood, the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of famous actress Dehlia Draycott, she and her friends become moving targets to the people trying to keep old bones buried.
Drew and Roberts are not entirely different either, Emma reflects, "I think Nancy and I are similar in that we are both very ambitious and want to succeed at what we do—me with my career and she with her sleuthing." Doing a film like Nancy Drew can be a lot of fun at times. It's hard to pick a favorite scene or sequence. "There are so many scenes that I loved doing so it is difficult to choose. Maybe the scene at the party where I save Corky from choking. It was fun to shoot the party scene as well. It was like having a party!" Not only was acting in a film like this a lot of fun, it was a lot of work, and a learning experience. "I learned a lot doing this film. Since I was in every scene, I had to really be focused on knowing my lines and being able to juggle my time, especially with doing school. If I wasn't shooting I had to be in school. I'd say it's important to be on time and always be prepared." Roberts certainly seems to have been well prepared for her role in this film. Other actors follow suit with their Mr.Green-in-the-Laboratory-with-the-candle-stick character portrayals. The typical, earnest Nancy Drew fan will find there are some things re-written for the purpose of this production, but others unfamiliar with the book series will not know the difference. All in all this is a really cute film, complete with action, miniature jumpy moments and Nancy-Drew-like plot twists. Why is this so darn fun? Well...everyone likes to solve a mystery - don't they? If nothing else - go for the fashion - if the 50s aren't in yet again, they should be. |

Nancy Drew is a great flick for young adults, especially teen girls. "I think Nancy Drew is a great role model for girls. She shows girls that it is
OK to be yourself. You don't have to give into peer pressure, be the
most popular, most beautiful... it's OK to be who you are. Nancy is
also a smart girl and is not afraid to take chances," says Roberts.
