Yes, the fabulous four are back again, this time battling to save the world against a super-cool silver surfer dude. Well, they are trying anyway. The Silver Surfer speeds around the globe, leaving destruction everywhere he goes. Not only does his power do freakish things to the planet - it can swap the F-Four's abilities (or at least it does every time someone touches flame-boy Johnny).
The movie opens with Sue (Alba) and Reed (Gruffudd) trying their best to have a "normal" wedding in the paparazzi-driven society of downtown Manhattan (yawn). Simultaneously, the Silver Surfer is ripping apart the world, one location at a time.
Sue, Johnny (Evans), Ben (Chiklis) and Reed have to once again team up with their cold and bone-charring friend Dr. Doom (McMahon) to save the world—yes he's back. Of course, this doesn't leave Sue and Reed enough time to get married the normal way, but who needs normal right?
The characters jump through one plot point after another and stumble through a few more near the end of the movie as well. There are plenty of cool effects, a few funny lines and some cutesy portrayals of characters. Evans delivers by far the most memorable performance. He is the main saving grace for the adults watching the film.
Fantastic Four is not a bad movie, it's just not "really good" either. The story completely unravels into a nonsensical mess at the end, leaving anyone with half-a-brain scratching their heads, wondering "why didn't he just do that in the first place?"
The older crowd (18+) may not be big fans of this movie if they try to delve too deep into the story or the portrayals...but then...it really isn't for adults is it? This is one for the kids. Take your kids - your kids will LOVE it!
