Roll Away, their debut album, is a testament of musical talent that would put many musicians their senior to shame. All three members provide musical proficiency that seems to have matured much faster than the musicians themselves. Davy Knowles (vocals, guitar) delivers a voice that is easily compared with the growingly popular Chris Daughtry. The album is a great pick for creating a background groove with its jam-style guitar riffs and Knowles' ability to belt out the blues in a familiar tenor. It's the kind of album that makes you wish you were in a park on a summer day listening to the music up close and personal. As far as originality goes, Back Door Slam has more than enough room to grow. But let's not forget that these guys are still considered young adults. One can only imagine what a little more life experience will do for their musical progression. (Just look at how young The Beatles were when they started). They're first album already displays a key element to the blues—the desire to tell a story. "Stay", the fifth track on Roll Away, is composed with a continuity of story-telling chords where, even though the song is perfectly relatable, the listener is forced to zero in on the experience of the songwriter. The release of the band itself into the music world is worthy of more celebration than their debut album. Roll Away is simply a well-balanced combination of melodic acoustic compositions and vigorous blues arrangements. The boys of Back Door Slam, on the other hand, should be kept under a watchful eye. If you had to guess the ages of the members that make up the band Back Door Slam just by listening to their new album, you're guess would probably be wrong. The up and coming band executes the type of blues that only the legends seemed capable of before now. Honestly, I feel blessed to have discovered the young, yet very soulful, trio. So have you made your guess? Back Door Slam is composed of three teenage (that's right) boys from Isle of Man, U.K.
