"This collection may be the closest Jeff Buckley—singer, songwriter, guitarist, seeker—ever comes to having his own greatest hits record,” said David Fricke. I couldn't agree more. {mosgoogle right} This album seeks to combine all that was Buckley, who died tragically at the age of 30, in 72 minutes of euphonious bliss— the masterful and moving guitar, the haunting falsettos. The emotion grips you through twin speakers and compels you to keep the album on loop. Buckley’s sound has always been powerful, expressive, and true. Every chord, note and drumbeat blend perfectly to create an organic, unique sound that is both catchy and heart wrenching. Never once do you feel cheated out of the truth of the sound, each song has an organic feel, as if he’s singing just for you. If you close your eyes and feel the songs, you can transcend reality. Buckley’s voice is beautiful, lilting, and at times, haunting. His creations feel effortless, like a soft serenade to a merry-go-round in Paris—innocence and regret, loss and beauty. By creating a sound that is alluring and soft, he can wind his falsetto gently around your heart. Romeo Stodart of the Magic Numbers said, "When Jeff Buckley sings ‘They all look so good from a distance but I tell you I’m the one’ in "Everybody Here Wants You", it is one of the sexiest, perfect moments in music ever, and you totally believe him.” Typical of Buckley, his musical honesty and passionate sound transform your soul. The sound you get from So Real is, typical of Buckley’s work, accomplished and inspiring. His sound is stirring and romantic, but safe as well. It is as if he steers you through the rough parts of your life, reminding you that there will always be beauty in the world. So Real is the soundtrack to passion, its playing from an upstairs window as you stroll the night streets of Paris, its holding your hand as you drown yourself in sorrow. In short, if you let it, So Real will change your life. |
