Synopsis: A master chef, Kate (Zeta-Jones) lives her life like she runs
the kitchen at upscale 22 Bleecker Restaurant in Manhattan—with a
no-nonsense intensity that both captivates and intimidates everyone
around her...that is, until the tragic death of her sister, leaving Kate to care for her young niece.
Kate's perfectionist nature is further put to the test when a brash new
sous-chef joins her staff, the high-spirited and freewheeling Nick
(Eckhart). His casual
approach to both life and cuisine couldn't be more different from
Kate's, yet the chemistry between them is undeniable.
First, this is most certainly a chick-flick. That aside, it isn't a cheesy chicky—wonders never cease to amaze. It is quite tolerable actually. This can mostly be attributed to the performances of the cast. Thank you very much to all of them.
The story is solid, although a remake of the German film, Mostly Martha. Zeta-Jones, Eckhart and Breslin all take to their character roles with a keen fluidity. They bring a charm to this film that would not have been possible without their presence.
All in all, No Reservations is a sweet film without all the extra goo or preservatives. It has all the right ingredients to serve up a made-to-order filmic meal.
I hope to catch this movie. It looks so cute and seems to have the underlying theme of what is really important in life. The movie was cute. I really liked Kate and Zoe was great too! I was really hungry when I left though.  |
