Image Television Series: Flash Gordon
Starring: Eric Johnson, Gina Holden, Jody Racicot, John Ralston

SCI FI is giving a 21st century spin to one of science fiction's best-known comic strip names, Flash Gordon. The new Flash Gordon follows Flash (Johnson) and his companions, Dale Arden (Holden) and Dr. Hans Zarkov (Racicot) through wild and momentous adventures.

The comic was originally drawn back in 1934, and its popularity grew into television shows, movies and other such memorabilia. Present-time, SCI FI has created a much more intelligent, real-world Flash, unlike the flaky men-in-tights characters of previous portrayals.

Flash is an ordicary guy who gets thrust, often against his wishes, into extraordinary circumstances. In fact, he and his friends become Earth's last defense against the forces of a merciless dictator named Ming (Ralston).

As the series opens, we learn that Flash's father, scientist Dr. Lawrence Gordon, died in a lab fire when Flash was just 13—well, that is what Flash thought anyway.

Flash's life takes a swift turn when a dangerous echo of his father's old experiments reach him. He then teams up with his ex-girlfriend, Dale, to uncover the mysterious happenings all over town. Why would he do that? Because she's a reporter for their hometown TV station, which means she has resources—and spunk. Dale quickly becomes entangled with Flash in interstellar intrigue—leaving her fiance in the dust on more than one occasion.

It's no coincidence that Dr. Zarkov, a paranoid assistant to Flash's father, also reconnects with Flash when the echos start popping up, whether at the bowling alley or in Flash's very own home!

Zarkov warns Flash and Dale of a trans-dimensional rift—a tear in the universe's fabric—like the one Flash's father was trying to create the night of the fire. When one is generated right before their eyes, Flash decides to investigate, accidentally taking Dale with him. Here is where the adventure REALLY begins.

Will Flash find a way home, escape his capturing torturer, rescue his friend and find out the truth about his father before the show's end? Well...I guess you'll have to watch the premiere to find out!

Flash Gordon premieres on August 10th at 9/8C on the SCI FI Channel.
