In an effort to encourage young people to "make music, not coffins", Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx has climbed atop the proverbial soap box to discuss his own experiences of substance abuse. As part of the launch of the new Spinner.com column Shout it Out Loud, Nikki Sixx sat down to discuss music, the overbearing industry, and the habit of turning a blind eye to the reality of drugs in modern music. With six years of sobriety under his belt, Nikki Sixx uses the Spinner article to question attitudes in the music profession. "In any other profession your business associates will call attention to your short-comings and downfalls, but in the music industry everyone just enables your addictions." Sixx reflects on his history of substance abuse, and the industry that made and then broke him, in his new book and soundtrack The Heroin Diaries, to be released September 18th and August 24th respectively. He hopes to act as a support pillar for the musicians of tomorrow, assisting them with his first-hand knowledge of the music industry and the dangers of substance abuse.
