Synopsis: After his father's death, Kale becomes sullen, withdrawn, and troubled—so much so that he finds himself under a court-ordered sentence of house arrest. His mother, Julie, works night and day to support herself and her son, only to be met with indifference and lethargy. The walls of his house begin to close in on Kale. He becomes a voyeur as his interests turn outside the windows of his suburban home towards those of his neighbors, one of which Kale begins to suspect is a serial killer. Are his suspicions merely the product of cabin fever and his overactive imagination? DVD Features:
Critique: Disturbia manages to be both entertaining and thrilling. There are bits of humor thrown in here and there as a nice little garnish to keep things from getting too extreme or mundane. LaBeouf is fantastic in this role, complimented by a very creepy Morse. Both are quite comfortable in their character skin, making this filmic reality believable and enjoyable. The other actors weigh in with good performances, along with a solid story and good direction. The DVD has a lot of features, although all of them together are just under 30 minutes. The Outtakes and the Making of Disturbia are the most interesting of the featurettes. I felt like there should have been more as far as the features on the DVD, however, they are an adequate supplement to a well-done thriller that certainly stands quite firmly all on its on. |
