Critique:
This is a television drama unlike any other. It has one of the best writing teams around, who aren't afraid to take risks and stir things up a bit. House is arguably the best show on Prime Time. It is witty, charismatic and captivating, with a hint of characterized mystery and mayhem.
Whether House is trying to figure out a medical enigma, insulting a patient or brutalizing one of his younger medical counterparts, there is never a dull moment. The acting in this series is impeccable. The dramatic storylines entangle the viewer to the point they dare not get up for commercials for fear of missing one second of the show's return. Happily, one does not have to worry about that with DVD in hand.
Unlike other medical dramas, such as ER or Chicago Hope—even Grey's Anatomy, House has a very distinct personality all its own. It isn't just a medical drama series with serious plot points. The humor sprinkled in is so cleverly interwoven it creates the ultimate television experience. If Laurie doesn't get an Emmy this year, I'd say it's just because they are jealous! He is utterly brilliant.
If I had to nit-pick about this season, I would have to say the storyline inclusive of guest star David Morse went on a bit too long, and perhaps House went a bit too far with his staff...something resulting in all of them leaving the hospital. This massive cliff-hanger is definitely an interesting one. How will House get them all to come back?
Fans all know the character is a cocky, smart-ass with an over-expansive IQ, however, he has never been very good at expressing his true feelings. This will be a true test of character in the upcoming season. He has a human side—it is there, no matter how subtle it has surfaced, it has surfaced nonetheless. The real question will be whether he can push off his crusty shell long enough to get his crew back (he needs them more than he thinks).
As far as features on a DVD go, the ones included within the House: Season Three DVD ensemble are just what the doctor ordered. Not only do you have a masterful television series at your fingertips, you have funny, quirky featurettes and bloopers to enjoy, clocking in with over 17 hours of digital House-ness.
