Recorded in the famous Pantages Theater in Los Angeles, California, Foo Fighters rocked the house with their acoustic masterpiece of Skin and Bones. I think it is safe to say that Skin and Bones is one of the top acoustic recordings along with Eric Clapton’s Unplugged, The Eagles' Hell Freezes Over and the most popular Nirvana in New York. The majority of the tracks are mellow, relaxing melodies with a sense of emotion permeating throughout the lyrics. My favorites on this album are “Walking After you”, “Big Me”, (magnetic!), but the most beloved is “Times Like These”. Although most of the tracks are tranquil and calm there are definitely a few tracks on the album that are upbeat and very fun to listen to. “Cold Day in the Sun” and “Skin and Bones” are two songs that make you feel like you are there rockin’ out with the fans. The track that truly explodes is “Best of You”. The passion and fire that obviously fueled the writing of the lyrics and is more than evident with Dave Grohl’s raw intensity. The fans are definitely affected, singing (and some scream) along with it. The album ends with a fantastic finale of “Everlong”. It left me with a smile on my face and a hint of jealousy that I wasn’t there to share this incredible experience live with all of the other fans. Even so, listening to this CD makes you feel like you are there in the front row absorbing every lyric, melody and strum of the guitar. Foo Fighters' Skin & Bones is a brilliant CD mixed with some of their best work. |
