sydneywhite_poster.jpg Rated: PG-13
Starring: Amanda Bynes, Mathew Long, Sara Paxton and Jeremy Howard
Directed By: Joe Nussbaum

Amanda Bynes puts her sweet side forward in Sydney White, and comes up smelling like a rose. The film, directed at female pre-teens to undergrads, hits its mark and should have them eating this up like ‘sugar free" candy. Don"t be surprised if audiences in this demographic come back again for seconds.

It’s Sydney White and the Seven Dorks. Super nerd Sydney (Bynes) enters her first year of college at her mother’s Alma Mater. Since her mom was a ‘big wig’ in Kappa, she joins the pledge class. Being very attractive, her mother a past president of Kappa, and catching the eye of the most ‘wanted’ boy on campus, puts her in a pickle with Sorority president and topper of the ‘Hot List’ Rachel Witchburn (Paxton).

Not being able to cope with the competition, Rachel ousts Sydney from the pledge class and casts her out into the street. When the ‘geek’ house takes her in and she starts rising on the student ‘hot list’, it’s all out war between the prissy and the dorks.

Amanda Bynes has come a long way since The Amanda Show, giving us a super performance as the clumsy freshman who finds herself in over her head during Greek week. A cut above her competition (The Duff Sisters), Amanda takes this role to a new level, making her break from teeny bopper to maturity.

I was also happy with Sara Paxton’s acting. Her portrayal of the wealthy power-hungry ‘witch’ was right on the money. I trust you’ll be seeing a lot more from these two rising starlets, beyond youth-oriented films.

FINAL ANALYSIS: You don’t have to be a nerd to have a good time with this film. It’s Revenge of the Nerds meets Snow White, with all the fun of both and the romance of the latter.
