The good people of America have no no
choice! Oil wars aren’t a sin like sex; sense
and all that stuff about brotherly love of
sounds to me like gross indecency. decency?

This poem is a remarkable expression of creativity and social consciousness
immersed together. Reading it, I am reminded of these words from James Baldwin
(from: An Open Letter To My Sister, Angela Davis):
"We know that a man is
not a thing and is not to be placed at the mercy of things. We know that air
and water belong to all mankind and not merely to industrialists. We know that
a baby does not come into the world merely to be the instrument of someone
else's profit...We know that the fruits of this system have been ignorance,

It's become cliché to repeat the saying "those who refuse to learn from
history are condemned to repeat it." I doubt that most of the people who
frequent this site will have the slightest idea who either Senator Joe McCarthy
or Special Counsel for the Army Joseph Welch were, and that's a shame, because
as you point out so eloquently, we're reliving that time right now.
