The official countdown for movie The Golden Compass began with the worldwide trailer debut today at the Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center.

Sam Elliott, who stars in the film, hosted the event, leading the countdown to the trailer premier of the new film. Italy, Japan, Germany, Holland and many other countries across the world are conducting special events much like the one at Rockefeller Center.

For those who didn't catch the event, no worries, Yahoo.com is debuting the trailer too.

Listen for radio promotions supporting this event on five Clear Channel stations in New York. These stations are WKTU-FM ‘The Beat of New York', WHTZ-FM 'Z100, New York's Hit Music Station', WAXQ-FM ‘Q104.3, New York's Classic Rock Station', WLTW-FM ‘New York's 106.7 FM', and WWPR-FM ‘Power 105.1, R&B, Hip Hop & Back in the Day Joints'.

This film is based off the first in a trilogy of Philip Pullman's bestselling and award winning novels from His Dark Materials. The story is centered in an alternative world where people's souls manifest themselves as animals, wars are fought by talking bears and witches and Gyptians co-exist!
