Librarian Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) has saved the world from time traveling ninjas and magic spirits, but he has yet to face his greatest adventure …until now.  A mysterious package from Egypt arrives in the mail for Flynn containing an ancient map to King Solomon’s Mines. 

King Solomon, one of the Bible’s richest and wisest kings, stored his most prized possessions in secret mines.  Before Flynn can discover the secret behind the map, it is  taken from his possession.  What lies in King Solomon’s Mines has the power to bend space and time and unleash the powers of the underworld.  Now it is up to Flynn to retrieve the map and save the fate of the world!

Critique

This quirky, fun telefilm aired on TNT in 2006.  The DVD release of King Solomon's Mines is sure to be just as popular as its predecessor, Quest for the Spear, sporting the same lovable know-it-all screw-up librarian, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle).  I know what you are thinking - it is a telefilm, how good can it be?  The funny thing about television lately - technology has come a long way, writers are good or bad no matter what they are writing for, and there is now a very fine line between the entertainment value of "film" and "tv".  Sometimes I prefer telefilms much more than those found at the local theater.

Wyle does a great job of combining effortless brilliance and accidental humor.  This little DVD is a great entertainer and a fabulous addition for any dramatic adventurer.  The one DVD featurette, In the Den with The Librarian's Special Effects Artists, was very informative with regards to how the production was assembled effects and all.  I think it would have been a lot more interesting, however, if there had been a few more features on this DVD—interviews with the cast or behind-the-scenes footage perhaps—and you know there had to have been bloopers!  You don't need featurettes to make a decision about buying this one though—it is the exactly the kind of telefilm you will want to watch again and again.
