I am not a fairy-tale girl. I never liked Cinderella, Snow White or Beauty and the Beast. That aside, I actually found myself enjoying this latest endeavor by Disney with Enchanted.

The story follows Giselle (Adams), a beautiful princess-to-be, as she is banished by an evil queen (Sarandon) from her magical, musically animated land, to keep her from marrying Prince Edward (Marsden), and taking over the queen's throne. But...where in the world is the worst place a singing, creature-friendly, animated girl can be dumped? Well...New York City of course! For real...

DisneyShopping

Giselle finds herself shot up into the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan. Lost, confused in her new 3-D reality, and looking for her Prince Edward, she falls onto Robert Philipa New York divorce lawyerfrom a looming castle-like billboard.

Robert (Dempsey) takes Giselle home with him and his daughter, offering to call her a car to take her "home". Of course, she falls asleep and ends up staying the night.

The next morning opens with a lively cleaning session between Giselle and all of the fun and furryand crunchycreatures of New York. I would advise putting your Goobers down for this one...

Every moment Robert spends with Giselle becomes a lesson in life and love for him and for her. As these two get to know each other, much to the dismay of Robert's girlfriend, Prince Edward pipes up through the sewers to come after his love and bring her home to be married.

Prince Edward is aided on his quest to find Giselle in this new land by Pip the chipmunk and Nathaniel (Spall), the queen's henchman. Nathaniel is not really there to help though. Pip keeps trying to tell the prince this fact, but the prince just doesn't seem to speak chipmunk.

The entire film is packed full of fairy tale jokes and spoofs, singing, humor, life lessons, and unfolding entertainment. Dempsey's skeptical character portrayal is perfect, with just the right amount of thawing towards the end to make it a believable happily-ever-after possibility.

Adams was born to play a Disney princess. She embodied the "princess-esqueness" that makes the animated characters so beloved by generations of girls all over the world. All of the performances were spot on, even the roaches were in tune...

The best part about this Disney endingit veers from the traditional ho-hum conclusions (thank goodness). For most teens+, the ending is predictable, but the acting, story flow and visuals are so seamless it doesn't matter. This is one of the best movies to come out from Disney in quite a while, with freshly spun magic.

No holds were made for the screenings of this movie either. The screening I attended was adorned with young princesses, mature costumers and red carpets. There was a contest for the "Enchanted Princess" held at Wanadoo City, awarding the winner a carriage ride to the movie premiere with some of her friends, along with a few other goodies. You can check out some pictures from the event below.

In summary, Enchanted is certainly a production for children, girls and boys, but adults won't despair if in attendanceit is entertaining for the older crowd too! This one brings the magic back to Disney entertainment.
