Viewers familiar with L. Frank Baum"s storyline will delight in the dozens of clever ways in which this new interpretation echoes the old. Yet, unlike anything the author imagined a century ago, the Ozian realm portrayed in Tin Man is much further over the rainbow than ever before. ![]() Synopsis: A fierce tornado rips DG (Zooey Deschanel) from her clock-watching life as a waitress and deposits her with a shocking bump on “the other side".
The O.Z. (Outer Zone) has been plunged into a decade-long night
of fear by the sorceress Azkadellia (Kathleen Robertson). Aided by her
Longcoat storm troopers and winged Mobat (“monkey bat”) spies, she has
seized power from her own mother, the rightful queen known as Lavender
Eyes (Anna Galvin), and compromised such once-potent Ozian leaders as
the Mystic Man (Richard Dreyfuss). Even the tiny but fierce Resistance
Fighters of the Eastern Guild are losing hope that the sorceress can be
stopped.
Her problem: Only DG knows the emerald’s location
and the map coordinates are buried in her subconscious. With every step
down the Old Brick Road, DG sheds her old identity and embraces her
true destiny. Along the way she collects a group of ragged but loyal
fellow travelers. Glitch (Alan Cumming) has lost his brain in
Azkadellia’s torture chamber. Wyatt Cain (Neal McDonough) is a
heartbroken ex-cop (or “Tin Man”) whose wife and child were abducted by
the Longcoats. The fearful, nerve-shattered Raw (Raoul Trujillo) is one
of the half-wolverine oracles who have been cruelly used and discarded
by Azkadellia. And then there’s Toto (Blu Mankuma), a shape shifter who
can transform from dog to man in a heartbeat.
