Wow, is the exclamation that describes I AM LEGEND the best. It"s a heart thumping start-to-finish film with an explosive beginning and an amazing ending. What goes on in between had me grabbing my armrest and holding on for dear life. The story"s good, the acting by Smith startling, and the direction by Lawrence impeccable—I couldn"t ask for more. If you liked The Day After, and I did, you will love I Am Legend.

Editor's Note:

I am Legend is one of the few action-thrillers that really does live up to all the hype.

There has not been a more suspenseful, exciting, heart-felt production to hit theaters in quite some time. Will Smith is electric.

A true shock to the senses, I am Legend is definitely not for the weak-of-heart!

If I gave you my synopsis of the film it would probably have many spoilers, as I still cannot stop talking about it with my friends who have seen the sci-fi thriller. So instead, the following synopsis comes direct from the moviemakers.

Robert Neville (Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City, and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone.

Mutant victims of the plague--the Infected--lurk in the shadows...watching Neville's every move...waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered...and quickly running out of time. -Universal Pictures

Will Smith shines in action films and this one is no exception. His devotion to bringing the best representation of the character to a movie has been proven over and over again with films like Independence Day, Bad Boys I &II, Men In Black I & II, Enemy of State and now with I Am Legend.

Smith does it all on screen, from his daily pull-up exercise routine, to morning hot rod runs, to doing battle with mutant creatures—it’s all in a days work for his character.

Basically, the entire film is Smith’s talent, under the keen direction of Lawrence, who bangs the Sci-Fi thriller onto the screen with a smack and a crunch. Aided by some fine CGI, he orchestrates the erratic movement of wayward animals on the hunt or being hunted in the now-abandoned New York City. They have now become the prey for Neville as he roams the streets looking for food and immune people like himself that may have been spared. Add to this some very cool make-up and special effects that bring forth some very scary creatures that hide in the darkness and you have the exciting recipe that makes the film work.

I want to give special kudos for an outstanding performance to the dog that plays Samantha. If they ever present an animal with an academy award, she’s a prime candidate.

The film may be very scary for the youngsters, so think twice about taking them along. All of the gore is realistic and the killing brutal.

FINAL ANALYSIS: Contagiously terrific for video gamers, fans of action, science-fiction lovers, and fans of Will Smith.

This sounds like a winner. I like most of the films Will Smith does. I have heard nothing but good things about it - definitely going this weekend to see it.
