Rated: PG-13
Starring: Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Sean Hayes and Beverly Todd
Directed By: Rob Reiner
The Bucket List pairs Nicholson and Freeman for the first time in
their film careers, but the question is, why did they wait so long? The amazing chemistry between the two Oscar
Winning actors radiates from the screen.
It"s Driving Miss Daisy meets Terms of Endearment
so get a date and bring a box of tissues, as this touching film is a real
tearjerker.
Corporate billionaire Edward Cole
(Nicholson) has the world at his feet until he learns that cancer is about to
take him to his grave. His charm and
fine demeanor was not what got him to the top of his empire, so he finds himself
without friends or family at his hospital bed.
What’s more, the hospital bed next to him is occupied by Carter Chambers
(Freeman) a middle-income auto mechanic with the same diagnosis.
During their lengthy hospitalization stay the
two opposites discover two very important things in common: an unrealized need
to come to terms with who they were by the choices they'd made, and a pressing
desire to spend the time they had left doing everything they ever wanted to
do. So sets the scene for a hilarious jaunt
around the world by two opposites making unusual concessions to which they
thought they would never agree.
Reiner shows his best side of the
camera in the direction of The Buck List. The film’s trailer does not do
the film justice, giving the hint that it’s just two old men trying to make up
for lost time. Instead we find a very
unique story that questions "If you had enough money, what would you do if you
knew you only had a short time to live?"
Reiner handles the subject matter with a keen eye, giving the audience a
chance to meet Cole and Chambers before whisking them off to their chosen
destiny.
It is only fair to repeat that if
Cole and Chambers had not been Nicholson and Freeman’s characters, it would not
have been quite as funny or heartfelt.
Nicholson’s still using his famous eyebrows to make a point and Freeman
gets in his licks in Godly fashion, but that’s what makes the film work. The fun is seeing these two guys arguing and
cajoling their way in and out of situations in their quest for completing their
lives with lack of restraint.
The film’s a great mature teen to
adult film that all audiences should enjoy.
Better see two of the world’s great actors together now, as there won’t be
a sequel to this film.
FINAL ANALYSIS: The Bucket List, a film with
brilliant acting in a heartfelt story that should leave your eyes filling with
tears and your heart full of joy.

Hollywood made a movie that folks over 30 might enjoy?? About time! Perhaps they'll realize there's a untapped audience out there! Great film! First time I've been back in the theater in months and it was well worth it! We have been waiting for this to come out. Went the first night and couldn't get in, it's that good!! I'd just like to say that this was the best movie we have seen in a long time. It was a very emotional movie for us knowing that they die with cancer as both our previous spouses died with cancer. I will never forget this movie! I hope it wins for "Best Picture" and Jack and Morgan should both get "Best Actor" as a tie!! If this pictures doesn't get the Oscar, then there is something seriously wrong with the Academy. Go see it, it's great!!
to be honest, the trailer didn't jump out to me like a film to go and see because it looked so good, it was more 'this looks...alright'. Learning more about the film is good, and I'll definitely find time to watch...though it'll probably be when it comes out on DVD so I can rent it.
