The PLUG Awards were formed to promote and highlight on the accomplishments within the independent music community. Nick Cave, Australian Recording Industry Hall of Fame inductee, has a rich history and influence in the music business and with his backing of the Plug Awards. He's shown many people of different backgrounds how great the independent music community is.
Nick Cave will not only be performing at the upcoming award show, he will be accepting the 2008 PLUG Impact Award, which honors his influence on the independent music community through his exceptional work and career.
For each PLUG voter who registers at OurStage.com, $2 will go to the Grameen Foundations's unique fight to end poverty (http://www.ourstage.com/go/grameen). "OurStage strives to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the most deserving," states Ben Campbell, CEO of OurStage, "whether it be helping up-and-coming artists achieve critical success or partnering with indie trendsetters like PLUG in supporting constructive initiatives like the Grameen Foundation's micro-financing campaign in the quest to end one of the greatest evils facing the world today - poverty."
Grameen Foundation's mission is to empower the poorest people to lift themselves up beyond their current situation through its support of microfinance, commonly known as "banking for the poor", and with these tiny loans, savings and technology, Grameen helps people become self-sustaining.
