The Hottie And The Nottie, starring Paris Hilton, pleasantly surprised me; it was actually pretty good. Going in I expected to see this cutesy dumb blonde doing a Simple Life act, but what I witnessed was a ‘coming of actress" woman who had me thinking Reese Witherspoon.

She"s got screen presence, can deliver her lines with self-confidence, and is a knock out to boot. Although the storyline is very predictable, getting to the finale is quite fun. If you are a female between the ages of 13 to 17 then this is a film not to miss. Male young adults, who think Paris is ‘hot', will be truly entertained.

Can you remember first grade? Well Nate (Moore) has never forgotten it. It was when he first fell for the pretty Cristabelle. But, before he could spend his elementary years getting to know her, Nate’s family moved away.

Now grown to adulthood, his attempts at relationships have ended miserably. Failing one last time, Nate decides to move back to LA and track down the girl he never forgot, Cristabelle (Hilton). In the meantime, the adult Cristabelle has been dating guys who have her body in mind and not her brains.

Her devotion to her ugly roommate June (Larkin) is very admirable and runs all the way back to first grade where an incident involving Valentine's Day brought the two together. So, she makes a pact with herself to swear off guys until June finds a man. The timing of Nate’s return is not so good, but he’s determined to get Cristabelle, even if it takes a devious plan.

While Moore’s performance is comically good as the love forsaken young man, his chemistry with Hilton doesn’t come off the screen very well. The two are just too different.

Although predictability is a problem with the film, it didn’t take away from the fun. The saving grace here is Larkin who sticks with the essence of her character, bringing some energy to the comical situations she creates.

A deep thought on Hilton’s career: Given the right management and guidance in choosing film roles, I feel that Paris could be a good actor. In The Hottie and The Nottie Putnam stripped her of her saucy manner giving us an inside look at a possible contender for meatier characters in prospective projects. If she can stay out of trouble and work hard at her craft, I predict a realistic acting future for Hilton.

FINAL ANALYSIS: The Hottie and The Nottie, a chick flick fun film that should entertain Hilton followers and those who like young romance.
