If you like stand-up comedy, then
you will love Vince Vaughn"s Wild West Comedy Show. The documentary is filled
with fun skits, comedy campers and a whole lot of interesting situations during
their 6,000-mile countrywide bus tour.
In
2005 Vince Vaughn, one of America"s finest comedy talents, produced and
appeared in a documentary about four stand-up comedians that crisscrossed the
United States by bus on a comedy tour.
They spent 30 days on the road giving shows in small and large towns
starting in California, and traveling to what Vaughn calls, the Heartland of
America. We are treated to their behind-the-scenes antics as well as some very
funny comedy routines.
The film shows the trials,
tribulations, admiration and accomplishment of unknown comics, Ahmed, Caparulo,
Ernst and Maniscalco. Their offbeat
comedy seemed to capture the hearts of every audience on the tour.
Sandel divides the film by showing bits of
each of the stand-up routines in front of different audiences as they travel
from town to town. He also includes
comedy skits involving Long, Billingsley, and John Favreau. He fills some of the hour and 40-minute film
with their event set-ups in each of the towns, including one for some of the
homeless victims of Hurricane Katrina.
I
am not a big fan of stand-up comedy, but I enjoyed the way it was presented and
the closed-door conversations with the comics following their routines. I especially enjoyed Vince Vaughn’s emceeing
and John Favreau’s extremely funny skit.
Like
most stand-up comedy, there are a lot of sexual references, ethnic comedy and
crude language, so I caution adults when bringing youngsters.
Final Analysis: Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show is an
enjoyable documentary that finds its way into your heart.
