Critique:

Beowulf is graphically stunning, but it's not epic. This adaptation manages to capture the essence of the character it illustrates, even though it sways from the origins of the poetic tale.

The graphics are similar to the ones used in Polar Express, incorporating the same actor/character look-a-like animation style. The major difference with graphics in this film is the precision. The character animations look more authentic, and not so...weird, as was the case in Polar Express. Overall, one could safely say the visuals in this film were in fact, larger than life.

Hopkins, Jolie and Malkovich round out a hefty cast for Beowulf. All did an adequate job at maintaining their characters throughout the production, though nothing particularly outstanding for any of the cast. The real stars here were the FX guys and gals that put all this together on screen.

There are many features on the disc, including additional scenes; a fabulous making-of featurette which shows how the actors worked with the technology to bring about this movie's look and feel; other segments delved into creature creations, historical origins and some of Zemeckis' ideas for a more modern Beowulf adaptation.

Final Analysis: This is a great visual stunner for any animation fan; has a good, steady story (just don't expect it to follow its literary origins) and some juicy action here and there. Would make for a great gory video game.
