What shows as a creature horror flick in the trailers on TV and in movie theatres for the film Splice, turns out to be more of a suspense-filled, sci-fi drama with disturbing elements. The movie is actually very good in a curious kind of way. For all you science fiction lovers who enjoy films with a ‘what if’ theme, this has your name written all over it.

Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, Ajami comes to American theatres with a stark depiction of what culture clash is like in the Middle East. I liked the film because it gets into the grit of crime, confrontation, discrimination and hatred that can make life a hell. Well acted, directed and presented, Ajami is a must-see for adults.

Here’s a little film that reminded me of an Alfred Hitchcock thriller, but with an erotic touch. Very suspenseful, great characters, intriguing and with artful direction, the movie Chloe burns up the screen in this unsuspecting, strange love story. The acting is courageous, especially on the part of both Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried.

This remake of a George A. Romero film of the same name gets a better boost from some great makeup and CGI. Add to this the brisk style and cunning storytelling of director Breck Eisner, and you have a decent package for the big screen. Filled with a lot action and suspense, The Crazies will be a delight to horror fans.

My eagerness for the release of Shutter Island, a suspense film directed by Martin Scorsese, ended with disappointment after seeing the flick the other night. What I figured from the trailer as an intriguing thriller, turned out to be a ‘Hitchcock-esque’ concoction with metaphors from the likes of Spellbound, North by Northwest, Marnie and Vertigo without the twists and surprise ending. If you go to see the film, you will be served up some excellent...

It's almost strange to see a black and white film these days, but The White Ribbon could not have been as entertaining in the color in which it was originally shot. In B&W we are able to feel the chill exuded by the disturbing plot and envision the era wrought with tough times. Taking on a great deal of angst, the storyline tends to bring one down however, so be prepared to deal with the...
