Brooklyn-based, chamber-rock trio Rasputina just dropped back into our laps. They've announced the upcoming release of their seventh music child, Sister Kinderhook, which was produced by lead vocalist/cellist Melora Creager. Their last release, 2007's Oh Perilous World, is one of our favorites.

We seriously dig on Creager's sharp lyrics and vocals, and the cacophony of instruments that collide and swell playfully around her. Feels like being on a playground trolling with slightly aloof adults. The cello just belongs in the center of the music here.

The two tracks on their MySpace "Cage In A Cave" (off Oh Perilous World) and "Rats" (off Cabin Fever) frolic and then scuttle as opposing facets of the same collective quite seamlessly.

Creager mixed the new album herself with Brian Kehew. Recorded at Filthy Bonnet studios in Hudson NY by Creager (lead vocals, cello), Daniel deJesus (cello) and Catie D'Amica (percussion), Sister Kinderhook is set for release in June. The band will tour North America the following month.
