Marines Show Their Stuff at MCAS Air Show in San Diego

The Miramar Air Show, held annually at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California, is a three-day event and the largest military air show in the United States. The theme of this year’s show was “A Salute to Vietnam Veterans” and included a display of the mobile Vietnam Memorial wall.

The show featured an AV-8B Harrier demo; Precision Exotics car race; a performance from Sean Tucker, “Oracle Challenger III”; and the Golden Knights and U.S. Navy Leap Frogs Parachute Team. Later, there was a demo by the Marine Air-Ground Task Force, which was followed by The Patriots Jet Team.

The highlight of the show was a stunning performance by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, who elevated precision flying to a fine art. Visitors were also treated to a large static display of Marine Corps aircraft and ground combat equipment, both past and present, as well as civilian aircraft. I met a 100-year old sailor in the press box and we traded military stories.
