Stream SBTRKT’s Debut Album Now on The Hype Machine

South London producer SBTRKT just landed on our radar courtesy The Hype Machine and it’s stream of his self-titled debut album, due out next week. Seems he’s been circling the blogosphere like a shark with a series of singles, EPs, and remixes making waves and such.  Hypem is now giving everyone of us the opportunity to listen to the album in it’s entirety on their site, and we must say, it is gobsmackingly good yo. Seems like these days you can’t go anywhere to dance without being confronted with a mask, headpiece or glowing neon helmet in the DJ booth. Here again, is another example of the gimmick that won’t ever die. We suppose mystery adds favorably to the Hype, in this case it’s working wonders for the oddly named SBTKRT (short for subtract). People are heaping loads of praise on the masked producer and we can see why.

Our mini-review:

As “an anonymous producer based in London graciously allowing the music to speak for itself” he produces a stunning debut with Young Turks off the back of two singles and the Step In Shadows EP. One of those singles, “Wildfire” is among the best of the lot, if we had to call it. Featuring vocals from Swedish Electro-Pop group Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano, “Wildfire” delights, dripping dangerously coy dubsteppy goodness into our ears. See what we did there?

However, our favorite track off the SBTRKT LP is “Never Never” tinged with synthy R&B goodness.  But picking favorites off of this thing is like asking us to choose a favorite child. Though we didn’t usher this bad boy forth from our own womb, we’d like to officially adopt it. It’s going on the summer playlist because it’s the kind of dance music that doesn’t scream at you but lulls, working it’s groovy way into those bones. Beginning with “Heatwave” shimmering at you like an oasis in the desert, and ending with “Go Bang” which is a primal invitation into the night and the city lights, the album leaves you full circle.

The crazy thing is, when you are streaming it on Hypem, it auto re-starts after the last track. And you know what? You won’t even notice so entrenched will you be. Here’s something extra to get you in the mood:
