“Table 19” The Misfits Move Up on Home Video

Sometimes a movie like Table 19 translate better on home video and gives audiences a more charming experience. At the theater the film came off the screen as just another comedy lacking a good script. Although the film has not lost its penchant for being silly, at home you have the ability to chat with others and be as goofy as those you see on your big screen TV. Especially if the ladies are having a late night wine and cheese party. Read more

“Get Out” Expanding the Chills to Home Video

Disturbing and provocative the movie Get Out turns up the volume on suspense and terror now on Blu-ray/DVD. One of the better scary films in a long time, the movie challenges you from the very start as to the motives of a family gathering with a “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” impression that turns sour. If you like fright films like The Visit or even The Stepford Wives then this is your creepy cup of tea. Read more

“The Shadow Effect” an Assassin Cocktail with a Twist

Putting a twist on an assassin thriller, the movie The Shadow Effect comes to DVD and I found the story a bit incredible yet entertaining. It’s a cross between The Bourne Identity and the The Edge of Tomorrow with a bit of originality added to make it different. This film takes the ideas from the two films and turns it into an assassination plot with shades of The Manchurian Candidate. While the filmmakers do a good job with their set up, their finale leaves you cold. Read more

“Rogue One: A Star War’s Story” Blasts Onto Your Home Screen

Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story blasts onto your home entertainment center in a Blu-ray/DVD box set. You are in control of all the action and a long list of Bonus Extras that continue to delight sci-fi space fans. The movie sets-up a new series for Disney/Lucas Films that brings exciting adventures in between continuing episodes of the Star Wars franchise. It’s quite a challenge for the team at the Mouse House and I’m very glad they came up with the idea. Read more

Disney’s “Moana” Even More Fun on Blu-ray

Adding another princess to their family, the movie Disney’s Moana comes to home video and it’s perfect for kids and family. The animated full feature takes place in the Pacific Islands with Fiji in mind. The heroine is a young girl who wants to save her people from becoming extinct due to lack of food. The comical musical adventure shows how courage, friendship and uniting with others can help you achieve your goal. Read more

“Dead West” Hunting for Lost Lust

If you are looking for a really depraved serial killer film, then look no further than Dead West. The movie, now on DVD, takes you on a journey with a lot of dead bodies left behind. Nicely made, the film shows a little pity by using off screen sound to confirm the killings. I’m not saying this to make the film acceptable for the squeamish, but Dead West does avoid a lot of blood gushing horror. Oh, this is not a cowboy movie. Read more

“Wild Oats” a Ditsy Comedy with Charm

wild-oats

I enjoyed watching two of my favorite actresses icons Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange in the ditsy comedy Wild Oats. Now on DVD and Digital HD the two were perfect as the twilight of their lives characters and brought back many fond memories of films in the 50’s and 60’s for MacLaine and the 70’s and 80’s for Lange. Still going strong they make the comedy escapade work dishing out a style that filmmakers have left behind, but with Wild Oats, not forgotten. Read more

“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” A Laugh Riot on Blu-ray

mike-and-dave-boxart

A laugh riot on Blu-ray, the movie Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates shows why it’s at the top of this year’s comedies. The duo of Zac Efron and Adam Devine remind me of Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan in films like Knocked Up and Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn in The Wedding Crashers. Zany, wacky and out and out looney the story hardly ever lets go of the funny bone. Read more

“Captain America: Civil War” a Blast on Home Video

Keeping the Marvel Comic franchise at the top of the charts Captain America: Civil War blasts from the big screen to home video. Available in various formats including Blu-ray 3D, the film delivers the excitement, drama and explosive action to make it an entertaining experience for teens through adults. The film has an incredible amount of extremely good CGI that it’s hard to distinguish between reality and fantasy. The production is so mind boggling, you will probably not take a break from watching the film. Read more

“The Family Fang”, a Wacky Heartfelt Film

family fang BOXART

Ditsy, a little wacky, but mostly heartfelt the film The Family Fang has been released on DVD. With a very fine cast, a very kooky premise and able direction by actor/director and producer Jason Batemen make the film an instant winner. Fitting into the mold of Indie comedies like Little Miss Sunshine, Mistress America and About a Boy, if you like any of the aforementioned titles then this is your cup of tea. Read more
