“Baywatch” Crude and Unglued

Silly, crude, ridiculous and distasteful, the film Baywatch, coming to the screen as a remake, is deceptive and can’t hold a candle to David Hasselhoff’s iconic TV show. Males will be lining up after watching the trailer to check out the film hoping they can see another wild and crazy Neighbors or 21 Jump Street with a lot of T&A and a cool story to boot. Nope, not even close. Read more

“CHIPS” Rude, Crude and Unglued

Rude, crude, extremely silly and violent the movie CHIPS has all of this and more. But, what you would expect from this parody of a TV series that won the hearts of millions in the mid 1970’s to early 80’s? A lot more than a lame remake. Billed as a crime drama, it’s more of a comedy with messy direction and over the top ridiculousness. I can go one step further; “CHIPS” was never a campy offensive show that relied on sex gags and stupidity to get laughs. Turning an ordinary story of romance into an unusual film, writer and director Tom Ford delivers Nocturnal Animals to the screen. Interestingly written, the movie twists and turns as it visualizes a book through the mind of the reader. It’s a different kind of film, one that needs a firm understanding of what it’s all about as it progresses. Is it a love story or one of revenge? Some may not get it at first, but that’s ok, because the thriller that she’s reading is a movie in itself. Read more

Here’s a quirky little film that could sneak in for an Oscar if the wind blows their way. It’s called American Honey and works its magic with a strong appeal to mature teens through 20’s. The film has a radical edge that takes a stab at the wealthy and also preys on the goodness of middle class America. That said, it’s also an eye opener of America’s failure to influence the young toward important social values and the danger of negative ones. Read more

“Popstar: Never Stop, Never Stopping”, a Rap Star on the Rocks

Continuing with a list of goofball films the trio of writers called ‘Lonely Island’ Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer make Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, a mockumentary style movie that may look a bit like one famous pop star who made it big. But it’s just another project for their memory chest. You may remember Hot Rod and The Watch or maybe not, well anyway they also collaborated on the two so-so comedies. And both films barely made a pay day for the big talent that were in them. Now comes another shot at trying to build an audience and box office, but from the looks of Popstar they should hunker down for the long haul. Read more
